Brian Joura Mets360: "When you start the year losing your first five games, you can’t complain about winning the seventh game ugly. The Mets played just good enough to emerge with a 3-2 win over the Reds Friday night in Cincinnati."
NY Post: "Jose Quintana was solid, the bullpen posted 3 ¹/₃ nerve-racking innings while letting up one unearned run and Baty played one of his best all-around games as a major leaguer, which enabled the Mets to scratch by on a night they finished with just four hits. The Mets (2-5) have scored 16 runs in their first seven games, the offense a continuing problem."
Newsday: "Jeff McNeil homered in the eighth — his second hit in 19 at-bats — for a key insurance run. Brooks Raley threw Elly De La Cruz four straight sweeping sliders, three of them called strikes, to strand the bases loaded in the seventh. And Brett Baty made a pair of standout defensive plays, including a diving midair catch of Spencer Steer’s scorched line drive in the fifth, saving a hit and probably a run and helping to snuff out a Cincinnati rally."

NY Post: Mets swept by Brewers on walk-off homer in nightmarish series before home opener. After a two-day hiatus the Mets’ lineup finally showed up, but it wasn’t enough to cover for the cracks in the starting pitching and bullpen. David Peterson was shaky to say the least and Drew Smith and Ottavino each allowed a run in relief. Mitchell’s (walk-off) homer was the Brewers’ ninth in the series. The Mets finished with two, both from Pete Alonso on Wednesday. The Brewers’ sweep left the Mets 3-4 after their initial road trip.
Brian Joura Mets360: "The Mets offense finally showed up in the getaway day game versus the Brewers but the pitching was still a big problem. The Mets had leads of 1-0 and 6-4 but they suffered their third-straight loss, as the Brewers had a walkoff homer in the bottom of the ninth and earned the sweep with a 7-6 win Wednesday afternoon."

Brian Joura Mets360.com: “Opening Day happened four days later than it should have. The Mets should have scored more runs early in the game. They should have had Jacob deGrom pitch deeper in the game. James McCann should have caught the less-than-great throw from Luis Guillorme. All of those should haves added up to a 5-3 loss to the Phillies Monday night.” (Subscription required).
Anthony DiComo Mets.com: All the pieces were in place as Luis Rojas had drawn them up. The Mets had the best pitcher on the planet on the mound, cruising, at an extremely low pitch count. They had two runs on the board and few worries in the world. Then Rojas removed Jacob deGrom and the good vibes evaporated.
Mike Puma NY Post: “The Mets went from May to Mayday to mayhem in a torturous five-run inning…Entrusted a two-run lead in his Mets debut, Trevor May loaded the bases with one out in the eighth. Another new arrival, lefty Aaron Loup, entered and plunked Bryce Harper to force in a run. J.T. Realmuto’s ensuing RBI single tied it, and Luis Guillorme’s throw home that ticked off James McCann’s glove on Alex Bohm’s grounder (the error was charged to Guillorme) allowed two additional runs. The Phillies scored a final run on Didi Gregorius’ sacrifice fly.”
Metstradamus: “I tabbed Trevor May as someone who would be a key to the season. Unlocking the door to the gates of hell with that key wasn’t what I had in mind here.”
