A historic day for Carlos Delgado in 2008 and a walk-off HR in 2006, a double header sweep of the Braves, a David Cone shutout and a Tommie Agee walk-off, just a few of the games the Mets have played on May 3rd.

Box Score - Game 1: Detroit Tigers 6 Mets 5 Francisco Lindor SS 1 for 2, HR, 2 RBIs, 1 run scored, 2 Ks; Tommy Pham LF 3 for 4, HR, 1 run scored, 1 RBI; Mark Canha DH 1 for 3, HR, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk; Brett Baty 3B 1 for 3, 1 run scored, 1 walk; Joey Lucchesi 4 innings, 4 runs - all earned, 5 hits, 2 HRs, 1 K; Jimmy Yacabonis 3 innings, no runs, no hits, 3 Ks; Adam Ottavino (L,0-2) 1 inning, 2 runs - both earned, 2 hits, 2 Ks;
NY Post: Adam Ottavino blows late lead to cost Mets in brutal loss to Tigers: "Jimmy Yacabonis pitched three perfect innings in relief, getting the ball to Ottavino in the eighth with the Mets ahead 5-4. But Ottavino allowed a bloop single to Matt Vierling and drilled Javier Baez with a pitch before missing with a fastball with runners on second and third that Haase smashed for the go-ahead hit. Ottavino’s blown save was the third by the Mets’ bullpen in 12 chances this season...Tommy Pham homered leading off the second and Mark Canha’s blast later in the inning pulled the Mets within 3-2. Pham snapped an 0-for-17 slump with his homer...Francisco Lindor’s two-run homer gave the Mets a 5-4 lead in the fifth against Joey Wentz."

SNY.TV: Mets takeaways from Wednesday’s 8-1 loss in Game 2 to Tigers, including Max Scherzer's return "New York’s offense posted just five hits Wednesday night while leaving 14 runners on base. Following the four-game split in San Francisco, the Mets have lost three straight series against Washington, Atlanta and Detroit."
Metstradamus: Sad Max "This was the moment we’ve all been waiting for. Max Scherzer had the back issue, then he was suspended (eat rosin, Phil Cuzzi), and the Mets have had issues with starting pitchers going deep into games...this was supposed to be the oasis in the desert, relatively. Instead, the Mets are choking on sand. Scherzer went 3 and 1/3 and gave up six runs, mixing in some batting practice fastballs and hanging curve balls to match."

Mets360: "In the opener, the Mets jumped on top early, plating two runs in both the first and second innings thanks to two-run singles by Alonso and Eduardo Escobar. Singles was the theme of the game for the Mets, as they did not have an extra-base hit while scoring five runs...[in the nightcap] Dominic Smith gave the Mets the early lead with a two-run double in the first inning and Pete Alonso capped the scoring with a solo homer in the sixth"

Pastime.com: The
Nationals blank the Mets at Citi Field, 1-0, on consecutive days, marking the
first time in 19 years that a road opponent has recorded 1-0 victories against
the same team on back-to-back days. The Cardinals last accomplished the feat in
1996 when they held the Phillies scoreless, scoring lone runs in the April 19
and 20th contests at Veterans Stadium.
NY Mets: Mets’ shortstop agony: Tejada botches double play, too. Tejada was unable to turn a routine double play in the first inning, leading to the game’s lone run in the Nationals’ 1-0 victory Sunday at Citi Field...Dillon Gee (0-2) set a Mets record with his 51st straight start of five innings or longer, surpassing Dwight Gooden’s mark."
