Metstradamus Adding Insult To Actual Injuries: "...the Mets are built on tough at-bats, pitching and defense, while the Phillies are built on two good starters and a ton of all or nothing players who play defense about as well as Jeffy Wilpon spends money or treats pregnant employees."
NY Post: Mets bullpen blows another late lead as injuries mount in loss to Phillies. "Didi Gregorius’ RBI double against Seth Lugo in the eighth was the backbreaker, completing a five-run inning for the Phillies in which they also tagged left-hander Joely Rodriguez. The collapse occurred after Trevor May, who began his second inning of work in the eighth, departed with arm soreness."
Greg Prince Faith and Fear in Flushing: Who's a Bohm? "It’s not that you can’t have too much pitching. It’s that you can have too many innings. Based on recent samples, the eighth seems like an ideal one to eliminate. Sunday’s eighth yielded four Nationals runs. Monday’s eighth provided the Phillies with five."
Brian Joura Mets360: "Everyone should know my feelings on LOOGYs at this point. The advantage you get with their ability to retire LHB is more than negated by their inability to get RHB out. And it’s only made worse with the 3-batter rule. Chasing the platoon advantage with non-elite hitters is a fool’s game."
Tim Healey Newsday: Taijuan Walker, Trevor May hurt in Mets' loss to Phillies. "Walker, their righthanded starter, exited after two perfect innings because of what he called right shoulder soreness. May, a key righthanded reliever, left during the eighth with discomfort in his right biceps/triceps, which he said is an annual issue for him. Both pitchers will get MRIs on Tuesday and said they were optimistic that their problems aren’t serious.

Yesterday the Mets "announced the club will unveil a Tom Seaver statue in a pre-game ceremony beginning at 10:30 am on April 15 prior to the Mets' 1:10 pm home opener vs. Arizona. Mets owners Steve and Alex Cohen will be in attendance, along with Tom's widow, Nancy, their two daughters, Sarah and Anne, and Hall of Fame catcher Mike Piazza. The statue will be located to the right of the Home Run Apple in front of Citi Field. "

- Defensive Positioning: The defensive team must have a minimum of four players on the infield, with at least two infielders completely on either side of second base.

In front of 40,000 fans, the
expansion Mets are honored with a ticker-tape parade up lower Broadway. The
players, wearing their brand new home uniforms, along with broadcasters and
other officials ride in open convertibles, throwing plastic baseballs to the
enthusiastic crowd as they drive by. |
1986 |
In a humiliating 9–8 extra-inning
loss against the Phillies, the Mets blow a three-run lead in the bottom of
the ninth, thanks, in part, to Keith Hernandez's error allowing the leadoff
batter to reach base, opening the floodgates to Philadelphia's comeback. Six
years, the New York first baseman's Veterans Stadium miscue (albeit placed in
the wrong season and different venue) becomes the background of a conspiracy
theory detailed in an hour-long Seinfeld episode, The Boyfriend. |
2009 |
A pair of tickets for the Mets
home opener at Citi Field, with a face value of $525 apiece, is auctioned off
for $7,500 on eBay. The ducats were owned by Bernard Madoff, who is in jail
after pleading guilty last month to defrauding investors, including Mets
owner Fred Wilpon, in a $65 billion Ponzi scheme. |
