Mike Lupica MLB.com: Why an Alonso-Mets split would be a shame for both. "In his six years with the Mets, Alonso has hit 226 regular-season home runs. Across town, Judge hit 232 for the Yankees in that same span...In the current vernacular of baseball, he “posts up,” game after game and season after season. In his entire career, one that included as big a postseason home run as any Met has ever hit -- a three-run shot off Devin Williams in the ninth inning of Game 3 in the Mets-Brewers 2024 NL Wild Card Series -- Alonso has missed a grand total of 23 games. In six years. And that ain’t nothing."

Manny Gomez NJ.com: Projecting Mets roster if 2025 season started today: Juan Soto is here, but Pete Alonso isn’t. Regarding the pitching Manny notes: "While the Mets don’t have a proven No. 1 starter in their rotation, they have the best depth in the National League, especially if the Holmes experiment works out. Of the 13 pitchers projected to make the Opening Day roster — if the season started today — nine have starting experience, including Buttó, who could still compete for a job as a starter...The Mets need to add another difference-maker to the pitching staff, whether in the rotation or bullpen. A No. 1 starter appears to be out of the question with the top free-agent starters off the market.

Mets.com: 1 question each team needs to answer before Spring Training. "Will Pete Alonso be a Met? This is a negotiation that could stretch deep into the offseason, as Alonso’s agent, Scott Boras, tries to find the best fit for his client. In the meantime, the Mets will stay in touch. Perhaps they’ll match any offer for Alonso’s services. Perhaps they won’t. In any event, it’s by far the biggest unanswered question for these Mets."

Mets.com: 10 of the biggest 'What if?' seasons in history What if Jacob deGrom stayed healthy in 2021? "It's not hyperbole to say that in 2021, deGrom was authoring possibly the best season by any starting pitcher in the Live Ball Era (since 1920)...deGrom ended the year with a 1.08 ERA, 146 K's and 11 walks in 92 frames. His ERA+ was an astronomical 373, the best by any AL/NL pitcher with at least 90 innings."

The Sporting News.com: Mets projected to land $427 million superstar in blockbuster 5-player swap. "On Friday, Christian De Block of Metsmerized Online proposed a blockbuster trade that would bring Guerrero to the Mets. In exchange, New York would send infielders Brett Baty and Luisangel Acuña, first baseman/outfielder Ryan Clifford, and right-handed pitcher Tylor Megill to Toronto."

1994

The Mets trade Vince Coleman to the Royals to reacquire Kevin McReynolds, who played in New York for five seasons beginning in 1987, along with $500,000 to make up the difference between the salaries of the two outfielders. Dickey agree to a one-year minor league deal reportedly worth $600,000 if the journeyman makes to the major league roster, along with the opportunity to earn $150,000 more in performance bonuses.
