Ponies Come Up Short Against Fisher Cats on Friday Night
MANCHESTER, NH – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (10-20) fell to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 7-3 on Friday night at Delta Dental Stadium as the two teams have split the first four games of the series.
The Fisher Cats (14-16) scored first on an RBI single by Spencer Horwitz in the bottom of the first off Ponies starter David Griffin (0-1). In the fourth, after Francisco Alvarez began the frame with a leadoff single, Brett Baty belted another long two-run homer, his second of the series, with this one off the front of the Brewhouse in left field to put the Ponies up 2-1.
New Hampshire immediately responded in the bottom of the fourth as Horwitz led off the frame with a home run to left. After a walk to Sebastian Espino, the next batter Will Robertson hit an RBI double to right-center that put New Hampshire on top 3-2.
Orelvis Martinez hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh, his 10th home run of the season, to make it 5-2. It is his second two-run homer in as many nights.
After New Hampshire scored two in the bottom of the eighth, the Ponies scored a run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Matt Winaker.
Griffin allowed three runs on five hits over three and two thirds innings in the loss. New Hampshire starter Paxton Schultz (2-3) allowed three hits and two runs over five innings with one walk and eight strikeouts earning the win.
The two teams continue their series on Saturday night with first pitch at 6:35 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and 92.1 FM with pregame coverage starting at 6:20 PM.
Postgame Notes: Baty was 2-4 with his third home run of the season…Alvarez was 2-4 with a run scored…Hayden Senger had two doubles and scored a run.
