Fisher Cats Home Runs Too Much for Ponies to Overcome in Manchester
MANCHESTER, NH – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (10-19) fell to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 7-2 on Thursday night at Delta Dental Stadium. New Hampshire (13-16) hit five home runs, including two from Sebastian Espino, accounting for all their runs scored.
The Rumble Ponies got on the board in the top of the second inning via a two out RBI single from Antoine Duplantis that scored Luke Ritter. In the bottom of the second, Espino hit a two-run homer to left center off Binghamton starter Alec Kisena (1-3) to put the Fisher Cats on top 2-1. In the third, Tanner Morris hit a solo homer and in the fourth Espino went deep again to make it 4-1. It was Espino's third home run in as many at-bats dating back to his two-run homer in the ninth inning of Wednesday night's game.
Orelvis Martinez belted a two-run homer to left in the fifth to make it 6-1 and John Aiello hit a solo shot in the seventh to put the Cats' up by six. Kisena allowed six runs over four and a third innings in the loss. Brady Lail (1-0) gets the win in relief of starter Andrew Bash, allowing one run over five innings with one walk and six strikeouts.
Ritter crushed a solo homer in the ninth to make the score 7-2 and now has an RBI in each of his last five games, and six total in that span. It was also his second homer of the series as he now has five on the season.
The Rumble Ponies and Fisher Cats continue their series on Friday night with first pitch at 6:35 PM and the pregame show getting underway on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and 92.1FM at 6:20 PM.
Postgame Notes: Jake Mangum singled in the top of the ninth to extend his hitting streak to 11 games and has now hit safely in 13 of his last 14 games…Duplantis has driven in a run in back-to-back games.
