SNY.TV: Mets' Marcus Stroman exits Tuesday's game with left hip soreness, will be reevaluated Wednesday, Right-hander left the game after just 21 pitches.
NY Post.com: “The Mets’ offense offered little help. It did not have a base runner until the fourth inning, when Morton hit Jeff McNeil and walked Billy McKinney. It did not have a hit until the fifth inning, when Eickhoff delivered his pinch-hit roller of a single.”
Mets.com: Stat of the day: “Since busting out for 14 runs against Matt Harvey and the Orioles on June 9, the Mets have averaged 2.6 runs per game in 14 contests. That's 29th in MLB over that stretch, and a full run less than their season average of 3.6 runs per game (which is also 29th in the Majors, ahead of only the Pirates). Over their last eight games, the Mets have been even less productive, averaging 1.6 runs per night.”

NY Post: Royals best grieving Mets. On a day when Darryl Kile’s death took the baseball world aback, it’s easy to understand how friends and former teammates would find it hard to concentrate on a game....The news of Kile’s death hit the clubhouse at 4 p.m., and pitchers Pedro Astacio and Bobby Jones – Rockies teammates of Kile’s in 1998 and ’99 – took it the hardest...Astacio, last night’s Met starter, watched the TV stoically before starting to tear up, and leaving to make a phone call. Nevertheless, he started and gave up four runs in 5 1/3 innings...Paul Byrd (9-5)...worked out of jam after jam last night. Tony Tarasco was the only positive, golfing a 1-1 pitch out to right for a second-inning solo shot."

Randy Jones (L,6-6) who had started out 1982 looking like the comeback of the year winner, going 6-2 by May 23rd, walked the first 4 Expos he saw in this game and allowed an RBI single to Warren Cromartie to put the Mets in an early 3-0 hole that they would not climb out of. A George Foster sac fly and a 2 run error by Tim Wallach got the Mets as close as 4-3 but ex-Met Jeff Reardon went the final 3 scoreless innings for the Save.
