Jim Hickman sparks a rare double header win in 1963, a Tom Seaver Shutout in 1972 and Francisco Lindor's first Met HR. Just some of the games the Mets have played on April 21.

Mike Puma NY Post: Joey Lucchesi throws seven shutout innings after lengthy MLB absence as Mets crush Giants “Lucchesi not only became the first Mets starting pitcher to record an out in the seventh inning this season, but also he placed an exclamation on his performance by striking out the side in the frame. Overall, he struck out nine and allowed four hits and two walks over 97 pitches.”
Brian Joura Mets360: "Pete Alonso once again was the offensive star, as he homered and drove in four runs for the second straight game. His homer was to straightaway center field in the fifth inning, a two-run blast. He added a two-run single in the ninth. Alonso now has 10 HR and 23 RBIs on the season."

NY Post: "The Mets used excellent pitching, a pair of home runs, a rarely seen hit-and-run and timely hitting to take a series from the reigning NL West champions on Thursday. The matinee final was 6-2 over the Giants at Citi Field in front of 28,760. For the Mets, that’s four series played, four series won to begin the season."
Greg Prince Faith and Fear in Flushing Won & Hardly Done: "Sitting through games like Thursday afternoon’s 6-2 Mets victory, on the other hand, is a genuine pleasure. Carlos Carrasco gave up a run in the second inning, and guess what — neither the world nor the game ended."
Metstradamus: "The story of Thursday’s 6-2 victory above all else was Cookie Carrasco. Carlos went 7 and 2/3’s innings becoming the first Mets starting pitcher to throw a pitch in the 8th inning this season, and if you had Carrasco as the first Met to do that on your bingo card, then I’d like to know where the hell you get your bingo cards."
NY Post: Carlos Carrasco shuts down Giants as Mets cruise to win. "Lindor led the way with three hits, including a first-inning home run into the upper deck in right field that was his fourth of the season. After a rough start to his 2021 season that all but buried him, he has resembled the superstar the Mets believed they were trading for and has multi-hit games in three of his past four. Since April 15, he’s 10-for-28 (.357) with three dingers."
MLB on YouTube: Mets vs Giants Highlights.
Francisco Lindor SS 3 for 4, HR, 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1K; Pete Alonso 1B 1 for 4, HR, 1 run scored, 2 RBIs 1 walk; David Peterson 3.1 innings, 4 hits, 6 runs – 3 earned, 2 walks, 3 Ks – ERA now 6.75; Robert Gsellman 1 inning, 4 hits, 4 runs – 2 earned, 1 walk; Trevor Hildenberger – 1.1 innings, 4 hits, 4 runs – all earned, 3 walks, 2 Ks, 1 HR; Luis Guillorme 1 inning, 3 hits, 2 runs – both earned, 1 walk;
Brian Joura Mets 360: If you like pitching and/or defense, this was not the game for you, as the Mets booted the ball time and time again and the pitchers allowed 11 ER in a 16-4 loss that was not as close as the score indicated.(subscription required).
Deesha Thosar NY Daily News: The Mets (7-6) committed four errors that led to five unearned runs on Wednesday night. One of those mistakes belonged to J.D. Davis, who made his third error in two days at third base, which represented the turning point of the game. In the fourth inning, instead of turning an inning-ending double play on a Javier Baez grounder right into his glove, the ball fell out of his hands and trickled behind him, between his legs. By the time he found the ball and fired a throw to second, it was too late.
Metstradamus: The highlight of the night was Luis Guillorme grinding out an 8 pitch at-bat down by 12 runs in the ninth inning as the last out. Seriously, I love that guy.

Mets hit 4 home runs - Pete Alonso, Noah Syndergaard, Robinson Cano and Michael Conforto. Unfortunately, they were all solo shots. On the mound Thor (L,1-2) allowed 6 runs, 4 ER (Amed Rosario with 2 errors), 8 hits, in 5 innings which was all the Cards needed for the win. For the second straight game a Met, in this case Robinson Cano, was hit by a pitch but was charged with a strike as the umpires said he swung. Pete Alonso was called for a similar play the day before.

Where allowing two runs a game now constitutes an automatic loss...Although the Mets (6-9) had two runners thrown out at the plate, they also went 3-for-13 with runners on base and managed one extra-base hit, a double...Glavine was strong again, fashioning seven innings of one-earned-run ball and just as encouraging, he said shoulder stiffness was not an issue. But he was victimized by Cameron’s fifth-inning error...With one out in the fifth and Brad Wilkerson on second, Orlando Cabrera singled to center. Cameron came charging in...But he said he failed to get his glove down low enough, and the ball scooted under his mitt. Wilkerson scored easily, and Cabrera ended up on third...Jose Vidro lofted a sac fly to give the ‘Spos their second run."
