Game Recap: Ponies Blanked by Curve in Series Opener on Tuesday Evening

BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (11-22, 39-63) fell to the Altoona Curve 6-0 at Mirabito Stadium on Tuesday evening as the Ponies were held to just three hits.

Altoona (16-18, 49-54) opened the scoring in the second with a two-run homerun to right field from Aaron Shackelford off Alex Valverde (1-4), his 20th of the season, putting the Curve ahead 2-0. Shackelford added an RBI single in the seventh as well.

Endy Rodriguez knocked in Jared Triolo with an RBI double off the right centerfield wall to put Altoona on top 3-0 in the sixth. Connor Scott's two-run double in the seventh then increased the Altoona lead to 6-0.

Altoona starter Luis Ortiz (4-8) threw six scoreless frames giving up just two hits and two walks while striking out eight.

Ponies relievers Josh Hejka and Joe Zanghi combined for three scoreless innings surrendering a hit and no walks with three strikeouts.

The Ponies will continue their series with the Altoona Curve on Wednesday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM with pregame coverage beginning at 6:20 PM on NewsRadio 1290 WNBF and 92.1 FM.

POSTGAME NOTES: Rowdey Jordan got his first hit at the AA level in the ninth.
