Today is the Mets Annual Food Drive, 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. in the Mets Team Store at Citi Field. Fans donating at least 10 non-perishable items will receive a voucher redeemable for two tickets to a select Mets home game in 2023 (excluding Opening Day and the Subway Series).
Also today is the day that MLB teams need to add players to their 40 man roster or risk losing them to the Rule 5 Draft. As I stated yesterday, I would protect OF Jake Mangum and LHP Josh Walker. Click here for the full list of Mets eligible Rule 5 players.
Andy Martino SNY.TV: Mets hire former Cardinals, Astros coach Jeff Albert as director of hitting. Albert's hiring comes shortly after Mets named Eric Jagers director of pitching. "Albert, 41, was the minor league hitting coordinator for the Houston Astros for four years, followed by a stint in 2018 as the major league assistant hitting coach... two stints with the St. Louis Cardinals, first as a minor league hitting coach and in that role in the big leagues from 2019 to 2022...Albert comes to the Mets with a pre-existing relationship with assistant hitting coach Jeremy Barnes, who he knows from the Astros organization."
SNY.TV: Mets free agency and trade buzz: NY has interest in Andrew Heaney. Heaney, 31, had a very strong 2022 season for the Los Angeles Dodgers, with a 3.10 ERA (3.75 FIP) and 1.08 WHIP with 110 strikeouts in 72.2 innings -- a whopping 13.6 per nine.
MLB Trade Rumors: Seth Lugo Drawing Interest As Starter. "Will Sammon of The Athletic reports that more than a dozen teams — but not the Mets, yet — have reached out to Lugo...some of those clubs have expressed interest in putting Lugo back into a rotation."

Mets.com:
- Here's Showalter's case for NL Manager of the Year - "For a team that lacked stability and consistency despite talented rosters in recent seasons, Showalter was the antidote. Immediately upon his hiring, the veteran manager began making changes to the way the Mets operated their business, from on-field drills to the types of people employed by the organization. The result was the second-most successful season in franchise history."
