As we had yesterday on Mets News and Links: Buck Showalter wins the NL Manager of the Year award. "This is the fourth Manager of the Year award for Showalter and his first in the NL. He also won the award in 1994 with the Yankees, 2004 with the Rangers and in 2014 with the Orioles. Showalter's four Manager of the Year awards are tied for the most in the award's history with Bobby Cox and Tony La Russa. In addition, he is one of eight managers to win the award in both leagues, joining Cox, La Russa, Lou Piniella, Jim Leyland, Bob Melvin, Davey Johnson and Joe Maddon."
Laura Albanese Newsday: "Showalter Tuesday became the first Mets manager to ever earn the honor, guiding the team to a 101-win season – the second-winningest year in franchise history."
Anthony DiComo Mets.com: "In addition, Showalter is the only manager to win the award with four different franchises...Showalter and Yogi Berra are the only managers to guide both the Mets and Yankees to the playoffs."
NY Post: "Showalter said on a conference call Tuesday night: '...Now the challenge ahead of us is to do it again and to sustain some things that everybody allowed us to be a part of. I’m hoping, and rightfully so, that it’s something that everybody takes great pride in because it is a recognition of the organization as a whole.'”

As we had yesterday on Mets News and Links: Mets Claim RHP Stephen Ridings off waivers from the Yankees. "Ridings, 27, saw his first major league action in 2021 with the Yankees, making five relief appearances and posting a 1.80 ERA (1 ER/5.0 IP) with seven strikeouts and two walks...The Huntington, New York native spent the entire 2022 season on the 60-day Injured List with a right shoulder impingement and threw 2.0 scoreless innings with four strikeouts across two rehab outings in September."
While the Mets decided to claim Stephen Ridings, they chose to not add any Rule 5 Eligible Players to their Roster which means that Jake Mangum, Josh Walker, Jordany Ventura and others can be be picked up in the Rule 5 Draft on December 7th.
Mets.com: Mets leave prospect exposed to Rule 5 Draft. Outfielder Jake Mangum limited to 72 games this year due to spinal injury. "He is considered old for a prospect at 26 years old and does not rank among MLB Pipeline’s Top 30 Mets prospects. But he is widely considered one of the organization’s best defensive players at any position, which could entice rival teams."
You can see the full list of Mets 2022 Eligible Rule 5 Draft Players here.
NY Post: Mets to meet with top Japanese pitcher Kodai Senga. "Senga, who will turn 30 in January, went 11-6 with a 1.94 ERA this year with 156 strikeouts in 144 innings while pitching for the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks in Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball."
NY Post: Max Scherzer was blown away by Steve Cohen pitch: ‘Boom, let’s be a Met’.

On my way to Fantasy Camp to take BP vs. Doc. He is going to throw me 10 pitches and I told him I could foul off one. The last time I swung a bat was in little league when I played 2B for Epstein’s Department Store in Clifton. Hit .091 that summer. Probably a bad idea on my part pic.twitter.com/eogo8idFam

1961 | Using blue and orange, the team colors of the departed Dodgers and Giants, the Mets unveil the franchise's logo selected from over 500 entries submitted in the expansion team's $1000 design contest. Sports cartoonist Ray Gatto's winning entry is a display of a skyline representing all five boroughs with various iconic symbols of the Big Apple. |
2004 | Receiving 21 of the 28 first-place votes, Vladimir Guerrero (.337, 39, 126) wins the 2004 American League's MVP Award. The 28 year-old former Expo outfielder signed as a free agent with the Angels after the Mets refused to guarantee his salary based on advice from their medical staff. |
2006 | The Nationals name Manny Acta as the team's new manager, replacing 71 year-old Frank Robinson, the oldest pilot in baseball. The 37 year-old Dominican, who served as the Mets' third-base coach for the past two seasons, is now the youngest skipper in the majors. |
