Mets officially announce the signing of Kodai Senga. "Senga, 29, spent the last 11 seasons in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball with the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks. He went 87-44 with a 2.59 ERA (313 ER/1,089.0 IP) and 1,252 strikeouts (10.3 K per 9) while winning six Japan Series titles since his debut in 2012, including four straight championships from 2017-2020...'Kodai has a championship pedigree and has excelled on the brightest of stages,' Mets Owner, Chairman and CEO Steve Cohen said. 'We are very excited to welcome Kodai to our Mets family in Queens.'"

The also announced that they will formally introduce Kodai Senga in a press conference at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 19 at Citi Field.

Jon Heyman NY Post: Steve Cohen: Cost of keeping promise to Mets fans doesn’t ‘scare me at all’. Jon Heyman's interviews Steve Cohen and gets some inside on the Carlos Correa negotiations (Scott Boras told them they were already 'down the road' with another team) and says this: "As one MLB honcho put it to me, the Mets could lose $200 million a year for 10 years, and it wouldn’t put much of a dent in Cohen’s bank account. From the personal experience of talking to him, I can tell you the steep personal losses wouldn’t faze him one bit."

Bill Madden New York Daily News: Mets, Yankees spreading holiday joy in Big Apple with free-spending offseason. Bill points out that "the other owners, most of whom didn’t want Cohen as part of their fraternity in the first place, were furious when he soared over a record $300 million in only his second year as owner...But unlike most of those owners, Cohen went into this offseason with eight primary free agents...So what was Cohen supposed to do? Watch all the owners going crazy around him, let all his free agents go, and replace them with dregs to avoid going any higher over the $233 million first threshold of the luxury tax?"

Joel Sherman NY Post: Big-spending Mets, Yankees, Dodgers, can still save with young prospects. "The Mets need to add one more bat, unless they don’t because particularly Francisco Alvarez and maybe Brett Baty are ready for impact now — with Mark Vientos and possibly later in the season Ronny Mauricio also potential factors."
