NY Post: The Post’s Joel Sherman reported that the Mets offered their free agent pitcher a three-year deal in the $120 million range. The two sides were in contact on Thursday, but there was no back-and-forth between the team and the 34-year-old two-time Cy Young winner on Friday.

Brian Joura Mets360: We knew that the Mets weren’t going to be able to retain all of their free agents. Yet somehow it felt like Jacob deGrom was going to make his way back to Queens.

Metstradamus: He's Leaving Home: "...maybe this is the “Matz Moment” of 2022 where Steve Cohen tells Billy Eppler to release the hounds and go get Kodai Senga and Carlos Rodon and Trea Turner and Nimmo can come back too and maybe Vladimir Guerrero’s medicals look good now."

Jon Heyman NY Post: Jacob deGrom megadeal shows that even the mistakes are bigger in Texas. Six words came to mind upon hearing the Rangers’ announcement of the $185 million, five-year deal for Jacob deGrom: Not worth it. Not even close.

NY Post: Where Mets can now turn to complete rotation after Jacob deGrom split. Justin Verlander; Carlos Rodon; Kodai Senga; Jameson Taillon

National Pastime.com:

1969

The Mets, in one of the worst trades in franchise history, deal outfielder Amos Otis to the Royals for third baseman Joe Foy. The 22 year-old flycatcher will go on to have an outstanding 14-year career with Kansas City and will become a member of the team's hall of fame, while Foy will play just one season in New York, hitting a meager .236 in 99 games.

1974

In a six-player deal, the Mets trade reliever Tug McGraw to the Phillies along with outfielders Don Hahn and Dave Schneck in exchange for outfielder Del Unser, pitcher Mac Scarce, and catcher John Stearns. The 'Ya Gotta Believe' closer will quickly become a fan-favorite in Philadelphia, helping the team in 1980 to win their first world championship in the 97-year history of the franchise.

2018

The Mariners deal All-star second baseman Robinson Cano, Edwin Diaz, last season's major league leader in saves, and cash to the Mets for Gerson Bautista, Jay Bruce, Justin Dunn, Anthony Swarzak and minor leaguer Jarred Kelenic. The trade doesn't fix New York's need to bolster their flailing bullpen when their new closer loses his role, finishing the season with 26 saves and seven blown opportunities.
