NY Post: Mets take a chance on outfielder-turned-pitcher Anthony Gose. "Gose, 34, was a hyped outfield prospect with the Phillies, Blue Jays and Tigers and played in 342 major league games before switching to pitching in 2017. Gose has appeared in 31 games with a 4.78 ERA with Cleveland since debuting as a bullpen lefty in 2021."
Anthony DiComo MlB.com: Mets add pitching depth with two Minors arms (sources). "The team agreed to terms with two more pitchers, Anthony Gose and Luis Ortiz, on Minor League deals this week, according to sources. Both will be in big league Spring Training, though only Gose has a chance to make the team, as Ortiz will miss most or all of next season recovering from Tommy John surgery...Those two additions bring the total number of pitchers acquired so far this offseason by the Mets to 18"
18? Me being a natural skeptic, I had to double check that - let's see - these two - Anthony Gose, Luis Ortiz. Then Griffin Canning, Dylan Covey, Justin Hagenman, Kevin Herget, Clay Holmes, Frankie Montas - those are the 40 man Roster adds to bring the total to eight. Six adds to the Syracuse Roster - Genesis Cabrera, Alex Carrillo, Chris Devenski, Rico Garcia, Michael Hobbs, Oliver Ortega - that's fourteen. One add to the Binghamton Roster - Sean Harney - that's fifteen. Two adds to the DSL Mets Orange Roster - Yuhi Sako and Yoandri Gonzalez - that's 17. Finally, I guess he is counting Grant Hartwig who was non-tendered and brought back.
Jon Heyman and Mark W. Sanchez NY Post: Yankees made pitch to Roki Sasaki on same day as Mets in latest NY free agency battle. "Both New York clubs visited Los Angeles on Thursday and made their pitches for the young, star Japanese righty, The Post has learned."
Newsday: Mets second, Yankees third in MLB luxury tax payments. "NEW YORK (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers topped a record nine teams owing Major League Baseball's luxury tax this year with a $103 million penalty, and the $97.1 million bill for the New York Mets raises their tax total under high-spending owner Steve Cohen to nearly $229 million."
