Mets Press Release: "The New York Mets today announced that original Met Frank Thomas passed away this morning at age 93 in Pittsburgh. Thomas played for the Mets from 1962-1964. He hit 34 homers in 1962, a franchise mark that stood until 1975 when Dave Kingman slugged 36 home runs. Thomas also drove in 94 runs in 1962, a record that stood until 1970."
Jay Horowitz: Mets Insider Blog: "One of the great things about our Old Timers’ Day Game last August was how much the original, 1962 Mets loved coming back to see teammates. No one had a better time getting into uniform again than 93-year old Frank Thomas who passed away this morning in an assisted living facility in Pittsburgh."
Anthony DiComo MLB.com: “'It doesn’t make a difference who I played with or for,' Thomas said in a longform interview with broadcaster Howie Rose in 2019. 'I just loved baseball that much.'”
You can see the entire interview between Howie and Frank from 3 years ago by clicking here.
NY Post: "Frank Thomas homered for the Mets in their first two homes, the Polo Grounds and Shea Stadium, and joked last year upon accepting an invite to Old-Timers’ Day that his goal was to add Citi Field to the list."
The Philadelphia Inquirer: Slugger Frank Thomas, remembered for fight with Dick Allen in 1965, dies at 93.
CBS Sports: Frank Thomas, three-time MLB All-Star for Pirates in 1950s, dies at 93.
Adam Ottavino and Omar Narvaez will meet the Press today at 1:30. You can view it on the SNY YouTube Channel.
Mets officially announced the signing of 27 international players: "'Today is an important part for our organization's continued strategy of long-term success," said General Manager Billy Eppler. "I can't wait for these players to start their journey to the big leagues.'...The class is highlighted by catcher Daiverson Gutierrez, who ranks 27th on MLB.com’s top 50 international list. He is joined by outfielder Anthony Baptist, who ranks 29th and INF Cristopher Larez, who places 43rd on the list."
Brian Joura at Mets360 has released his very extensive Top Mets 50 Prospect List. Instead of listing them 1-50 as most do, Brian breaks them down into the "Pete Alonso" level (ones who seem on track for a productive MLB career) which includes players like Francisco Alvarez and Brett Baty; the "Wilmer Flores" level; the "Luis Guillorme" level; the "Tylor Megill" and the "Stephen Nogosek" level.
