Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, NJ – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (11-13) fell to the Somerset Patriots 4-3 on Saturday night at TD Bank Ballpark. The Patriots scored all four of their runs over the first two innings and have taken four of the first five games in the series.

Somerset (16-9) struck immediately in the first on back-to-back home runs from Jasson Domínguez and Austin Wells off Jose Chacin (0-1) to take a 2-0 lead. In the second, T.J. Rumfield belted a two-run homer down the right field line to double the Patriots lead to 4-0.

After scoring a run in the fifth to get on the board, JT Schwartz’ RBI Triple in the sixth scored Rowdey Jordan from first to cut the Ponies deficit to 4-2.

In the ninth, the Ponies would be awarded a run on a throwing error by Somerset pitcher Justin Wilson to make it 4-3. With the tying run on third and two out, Matt Rudick rocketed a liner right to second basemen Eduardo Torrealba to end the game.

After the first two innings, Chacin would not allow a run the rest of his outing as he allowed five hits over five innings. Binghamton’s bullpen was superb again as Alex Valverde and Hunter Parsons combined for three perfect innings of relief. Parsons has not allowed a run since April 6th, spanning five appearances.

This edition of the Double-A Subway Series concludes on Sunday with first pitch at 1:05 PM and the NYCM Insurance Pregame show getting underway at 12:50 PM on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.

Postgame Notes: Rowdey Jordan’s five-game hitting streak was snapped, but he still reached base twice on two walks…over his last two games, Rumfield has two home runs and six RBI.
