Lara goes 3 for 3 with 2 doubles, reaches base 6 times

 

ST. LUCIE METS PRESS RELEASE: PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (July 27, 2023) – The St. Lucie Mets romped to a 17-3 win over the Bradenton Marauders on Thursday night at Clover Park (Box Score).

 

It was the second most runs scored by the Mets this season and they tied their biggest margin of victory. They previously set highs in runs and margin of victory in an 18-4 win against Jupiter on May 4th.

 

The two teams combined to walk 29 batters and the game took 3 hours and 26 minutes to play, the longest Mets game of the season. It was the Mets who made the Marauders pay the most for the free passes. The Marauders only mustered four hits and one was a solo homer.

 

Mets outfielder Wilfredo Lara went 3 for 3 with two doubles, three walks, four RBI and three runs scored. He became the first Met to reach base six times in a game this season.

 

Jacob Reimer went 2 for 3 with a pair of walks and a hit-by-pitch. It was the third time in the last four games he reached base four times. It was third time this season he reached five times in a game.

 

Vincent Perozo went 3 for 4 with a double, two walks and four RBI.

 

The Mets pounded out 12 hits and walked 16 times.

 

The Mets knocked Bradenton starter Alessandro Ercolani out of the game at 38 pitches and just two outs into the first inning. Perozo hit a two-run double in the frame that put the Mets up 3-0.

 

Lara stroked a two-run double in the second to increase the Mets lead to 5-0.

 

The Mets broke the game open with seven runs in the fourth inning against reliever Darvin Garcia. The Mets only had two hits in the inning – a RBI single by Perozo and a two-run double by Yeral Martinez. Garcia walked three batters and hit a batter. Martinez and Kevin Villavicencio scored the final two runs of the inning on passed balls by catcher Geovanny Planchart to expand the advantage to 12-0.

 

The Marauders used three position players to pitch the final two innings. Starting left fielder Tanner Tredaway pitched a scoreless seventh inning by getting a double play with the bases loaded.

 

Infielder Deivis Nadal walked four batters in the eighth inning and gave up four runs on two bases loaded walks and a two-run double by Lara. Fellow infielder Juan Jerez got the final out.

 

Four Mets pitchers limited the Marauders to three runs on four hits despite walking 13 batters. Luis R. Rodriguez made the start and pitched 3.0 scoreless innings.

 

Candido Cuevas struck out five batters in 2.0 innings for the second straight appearance. He was credited with the win.

 

Christopher Vasquez struck out five and walked five in 3.0 hitless and scoreless innings.

 

The Mets (33-59, 9-18) and Marauders (53-39, 18-9) play the fourth game of their series at Clover Park on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:10 p.m.
