Teams
will resume game 2 next month at Clover Park
ST. LUCIE METS PRESS RELEASE: JUPITER, Fla. (June 25, 2023) – The Jupiter Hammerheads edged the St. Lucie Mets 1-0 in game 1 of Sunday’s doubleheader at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Game 2 was suspended due to unplayable field conditions in the top of the fourth with Jupiter leading 1-0 (Box Score). The game will resume next month when the teams meet at Clover Park.
In game 1,
the Hammerheads scored the lone run on a two-out RBI single by Harrison Spohn
off Mets starter Jawilme Ramirez in the fifth inning. Chase Luttrell began the
inning with a single and advanced to second on the second out. He came around
to score on the Spohn hit.
It was a
tough-luck loss for Ramirez. He pitched 5.0 inning and allowed just the one run
on three hits. He did not walk or strikeout a batter. He threw an efficient 56
pitches.
SeanReid-Foley (Tommy John surgery) continued his minor league rehab assignment
with a scoreless sixth inning.
Karson
Milbrandt got the win for Jupiter. He blanked the Mets over 5.0 inning. He
scattered three hits, walked one and struck out five.
Evan
Taylor pitched a 1-2-3 seventh for his 10th save.
The Mets
best chance to score came in the fifth inning when Karell Paz hit a one-out
single and Jose Hernandez drew a walk. Milbrandt recovered to retire YeralMartinez and Kevin Villavicencio on ground outs.
WilfredoLara went 2 for 3 with a double. His double came with two outs in the sixth and
he was stranded in scoring position.
In game 2,
Brett Roberts led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run against
Mets starter Felipe De La Cruz for the game’s only run to this point.
The Mets
got back-to-back singles from Martinez and Blaine McIntosh off Jupiter starter
Collin Lowe with one out in the fourth right before the game entered a delay.
When the
game resumes at Clover Park at a day at time TBD in July, the Mets will have
the tying run at second and the go-ahead run at first with one out. The Mets
will remain the visiting team.
The Mets
(1-1, 25-42) are off on Monday and Tuesday. They return to Clover Park on Wednesday
to start a six-game series vs. the Dunedin Blue Jays. Wednesday will be a
Silver Sluggers game with first pitch at 6:10 p.m.
