Brandon was selected by the Mets last year in the 3rd round but did not sign. Last year's Press Release on the drafting noted this: "The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder pitched for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team in 2021 and topped out at 99-100 MPH with his fastball. Sproat was previously drafted by the Texas Rangers in the seventh round of the 2019 First-Year Plyer Draft out of Pace High School (FL)."
Analysis by David J. Rubin -
SPROAT!!! WOW!! In order to sign him. He had to agree to be drafted by the New York Mets again and obviously he did not have a problem with that.
He has an incredible fastball, but needs to work on his control in order to be considered a major league level starting pitcher and not fall into the role of closer. This might be the first real test of the New York Mets new pitching Lab very happy with this selection.
He also worked diligently on his change of this past year and it became a second out pitch, but his control still needs a lot of work as does his pitch selection and the hope is he can straighten that out and allow his natural talent to take over. From what I hear he is Very competitive and an excellent student so let's hope the new Mets multi million dollar pitching lab will make him into a starter
We have to be happy, getting him again with this pick and also getting the benefit of one additional pick for not signing him last year

"It's funny how the world works. I was in the same position last year and we couldn't work out a deal, but I went back and bet on myself and it was for the better. It's funny how things turn out"

Sproat is going to be a huge money saver for the Mets, considering he’s a senior at UF. Will help w the Houck pick, but also give them some flexibility with their early picks tomorrow. Would expect a big swing with one of their first 3 picks
