BOX SCORE

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (August 17, 2023) - The Brooklyn Cyclones fell to the Hudson Valley Renegades, 6-5, on Thursday night at Maimonides Park. With the loss, Brooklyn has now dropped the first three games of the six-game set with Hudson Valley.

3B Jacob Reimer pieced together one of his best contests since joining Brooklyn at the High-A level. The 19-year-old logged 4 hits, all singles, while knocking in one run and scoring once himself.

The Cyclones started things off in the first on a Reimer RBI single. That was far from the only offense generated in the first frame though, as SS William Lugo knocked in a run on a Hudson Valley fielding error - one of three errors the Renegades committed.

Brooklyn put the exclamation point on the first courtesy of an RBI single from LF Omar De Los Santos to pad Brooklyn’s lead to 3-0. One frame later in the fourth, the Cyclones put up another run thanks to an RBI force out off the bat of De Los Santos.

The Cyclones kept their foot on the gas pedal in the fifth. RF Stanley Consuegra got in on the action, hitting a sharp line drive to left to hand Brooklyn its fifth run of the night.

Hudson Valley proceeded to score six unanswered. It began in the fifth, when CF Spencer Jones grounded into a double play with the bases loaded, scoring the Renegades first run of the ball game in the process.

The Renegades kept the momentum going into the sixth, when C Rafael Flores doubled home a run. RF Grant Richardson capped the sixth inning off with a two-run homer, cutting Hudson Valley’s deficit to just one.

The Renegades pulled even on a DH Anthony Hall RBI double in the seventh to tie the ball game. Neither team scratched across a run in the eighth.

In the ninth, CF Jett Williams came inches away from making an outstanding diving catch to save the would-be go-ahead run from scoring. Instead, the ball just got underneath Williams’ glove, giving 3B Jesus Rodriguez a go-ahead RBI single, handing the Renegades a 6-5 lead.

Brooklyn had an opportunity to draw even in the ninth. With a man on first and two outs, RF Stanley Consuegra ripped a ground-rule double down the left field line. Had the ball stayed in play, the tying run very well may have scored. Instead, the ball was trapped up against the fence, meaning DH Rhylan Thomas needed to stop at third base. 1B Ryan Clifford grounded out to end the ball game.

Brooklyn and Hudson Valley return to action Friday night at Maimonides Park at 7:00 p.m. RHP Joander Suárez (4-9, 5.27) goes for Brooklyn. RHP Leonardo Pestana (0-0, 6.00) gets the ball for Hudson Valley.
