Report: Mets Sign Relief Pitcher Austin Adams "According to Anthony DiComo on X/Twitter, the New York Mets have signed relief pitcher Austin Adams to a one year deal.  The 32 year old Adams pitched last year for the Arizona Diamondbacks going 0-1 with a 5.71 ERA in 24 games, 17.1 innings.  He fractured his right ankle in August, spending the remainder of the season on the IL."

MLB.com:

  • Presenting 6 trade proposals for Juan Soto - MLB has the Mets giving the Padres: C Francisco Alvarez, 2B/SS/OF Ronny Mauricio (MLB Pipeline's No. 87 overall prospect), RHP Mike Vasil (Mets' No. 9 prospect) - IMO, quite a lot for a one year rental and I think Alvarez is untouchable.
  • One Intriguing Rule 5 Draft Option for each team. - For the Mets they have Coleman Crow - "New York acquired the 22-year-old right-hander from the Angels in the Eduardo Escobar deal, but he's yet to pitch for any Mets affiliate after undergoing Tommy John surgery in the summer. That rehab process likely left him off the 40-man for now, but a Rule 5 club that liked Crow -- a four-pitch starter whose best pitch is his slider -- could draft and stash the hurler with a more likely goal to stick in 2025."

1998

The Mets sign 31 year-old Gold Glove third baseman Robin Ventura (.263, 21, 91) to a four-year, 32 million dollar free-agent deal. The New York reliever had asked that his pact include an option year in which he would play for free, but that plan was unworkable because baseball's collective bargaining agreement sets a $200,000 minimum salary.

The Red Sox introduce Bobby Valentine as the team's new manager at a news conference covered by approximately 100 members of the media, many of them from the New York papers and broadcast outlets. Boston announces the 61-year-old skipper, who hasn't managed in the big leagues since fired by the Mets in 2002, has agreed to a two-year deal, having options for 2014 and 2015.
