From the Marlins 3 Mets 2 Post Game Notes - 8/18/2024:

Mets:
  • Have lost their last three games decided by one run.
  • Are 24-31 in day games compared to 40-29 in night games.
  • Recorded three pickoffs in a game for just the second time ever...On June 20, 1982 at St. Louis, Charlie Puleo (Two) and Mike Scott (One) combined for three pickoffs...Courtesy of Elias.
Brandon Nimmo:
  • Launched a solo home run in the sixth inning to give the Mets a 2-1 lead...He moves into sole possession of 15th all-time in franchise history for homers, breaking a tie with Carlos Delgado (104)...Has homered twice in his last three games...Did not have a homer in his previous 27 games...Left the game with right shoulder discomfort.
Francisco Lindor:
  • Blooped a single to center field to tie the game at 1-1...This extended Lindor’s hitting streak to a season-long 12 games...Is hitting .358 (19-53) over that span with six extra base hits.
Paul Blackburn:
  • Has pitched 6.0 innings in three of his four starts since joining the Mets...Has a 1.83 (11 ER/36.0 IP) in six home starts this season...Four of those starts have been quality starts...Has pitched into the sixth inning in five of his six home starts.
Tim Healey Newsday: "Brandon Nimmo injured his right shoulder and will get an MRI on Monday. The bullpen blew another late lead. The lineup failed to capitalize on several scoring chances, including a two-on, none-out situation in the bottom of the ninth. Jeff McNeil struck out after trying to bunt during that sequence. The Mets suffered from being on the wrong end of two standout plays in centerfield and two close plays at the plate."

Brian Joura Mets360: "The Mets had two on and nobody out in the bottom of the ninth inning but couldn’t push across the tying run, as they lost to the Marlins, 3-2, Sunday afternoon at Citi Field. The loss kept them from a series sweep and left their record against their NL East foe for the year at 7-6."

Mike Puma NY Post:  "Vientos got thrown out at the plate to end the first after tagging up from second base on Pete Alonso’s long drive to center field. On the play, Hill — who hit the fence and fell — flipped the ball to right fielder Jesus Sanchez, who fired to the cutoff. Vientos had easily reached third and received the green light from coach Mike Sarbaugh, but was tagged out at the plate following a strong throw for a unique 8-9-4-2 double play."
