NY Post: Mets inducting David Wright into team’s Hall of Fame and retiring his No. 5. "David Wright’s No. 5 will take its rightful place atop Citi Field alongside last year’s overdue recipients, Doc Gooden and Darryl Strawberry — as well as the Mets’ other team legends — on July 19, a baseball source confirmed Friday."
Newsday: Sources: Mets to retire David Wright's No. 5 jersey. Wright is the Mets’ all-time leader in hits (1,777), doubles (390), RBIs (970) and total bases (2,945). He’s also tops in WAR (49.2) among the club’s position players, according to Baseball Reference, and second to Darryl Strawberry with 242 home runs. He will be the ninth Mets player to have his number retired by the organization.
Tim Healey Newsday Three takeaways from the Mets at the Winter Meetings and 'Juan Soto Week. 1. The Mets should re-sign Pete Alonso. 2. The Mets are going to add to their bullpen. 3. The Mets think Soto can get better . . .. . . at defense in particular. 'He is probably about a league-average rightfielder, and we think he has the ability to get better,' Stearns said. 'And that's something that we actually talked to Juan about during our meetings with him. He is very motivated to continue to improve, to improve his defense. He got better this past year, and we think he can take another step forward.'”
"I couldn't be happier for anyone"
