Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: Mets Notebook: Blade Tidwell looking to improve command. "The Mets’ eighth-ranked prospect, Tidwell made the first Grapefruit League start of his career Monday against the St. Louis Cardinals, showcasing a blistering fastball with a simplified pitch mix. He touched 99 on the gun and allowed three earned runs on four hits, walking one and striking out one, with all three runs coming via a home run by Luken Baker. However, of the 30 pitches he threw, 19 were strikes, which might have been the most encouraging aspect of his start."

Mike Puma NY Post: Sean Manaea to miss start of season in another Mets rotation blow. "Sean Manaea has been shut down from throwing for at least 'a couple of weeks,' according to manager Carlos Mendoza, with a right oblique strain. Manaea felt discomfort in the oblique early in camp, but continued throwing. After the discomfort continued, Manaea alerted team officials and was sent for an MRI exam that found the strain." 


Joel Sherman NY Post Sports+: The Post brings you inside the Juan Soto routine that is giving Mets ‘goosebumps’.  "Eric Chavez gushes discussing Juan Soto’s hitting — off of a tee. He described getting “goose bumps” watching Soto’s pre-workout routine. The Mets hitting coach has spent a lifetime trying to bottle what he thinks is ideal in a hitter and now gets to watch it meticulously, relentlessly and religiously, daily...Soto goes through a 10-15 minute preparatory regimen. It is mostly the same as the one taught to him as a 16-year-old in the Nationals academy in the Dominican Republican by one of their minor league instructors, Troy Gingrich, and he has not stopped using it, even as the $765 million man." 2/24/25 Mets Roster Move: Mets acquire Alexander Canario from Cubs for Cash, Madrigal to IL: "The New York Mets have announced on Twitter that they have acquired OF Alexander Canario from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for cash considerations. Also, in a corresponding move, INF Nick Madrigal has been placed on the 60-Day IL. Canario bats and throws right. He will turn 25 this May. According to FanGraphs, he is out of minor league option"


Tim Healey Newsday: Mets still view Jose Iglesias as 'not a fit' after Nick Madrigal's injury, source says. "The ability to send Madrigal to the minors was part of the reason the Mets signed him. Luisangel Acuna and Brett Baty, who are among the candidates to replace Madrigal, also can be optioned."

On their Twitter account, the Mets send out an image of the patch the team will wear this season in memory of Gary Carter, who died earlier in the month of brain cancer at the age of 57. The black oval will feature the nickname of the former New York catcher, Kid, and his number 8.

2016

The players' union and MLB agree to a slide rule in the aftermath of Ruben Tejada's broken leg during the NLDS. The new policy, the direct result of Chase Utley attempt to break up a double play that injured the Mets infielder, will be reviewable and will continue to allow contact to be permissible with the fielder, but the runner cannot change his path to disrupt the play deliberately.
