Tim Healey Newsday Mets lose Luis Severino to Athletics on three-year, $67 million deal, source says. "...stunning three-year, $67 million deal with the Athletics, a source confirmed Thursday. His is the largest contract in that franchise’s history...The Mets stayed in touch with Severino in recent weeks and a reunion remained possible, according to a person familiar with their activity, but they never pursued him aggressively."

NY Post: Red Sox want another Juan Soto, Scott Boras meeting as possible Steve Cohen threat looms. "While the Red Sox have increased their offer to at least $600 million, they have interest in another meeting with Soto and agent Scott Boras so they can hit land on a number that can get the outfielder to sign in Boston, according to the Boston Globe. This desire to have another meeting, according to the outlet’s Thursday reporting, comes from the fact that Boston has heard rumors that Mets owner Steve Cohen could offer to go $50 million above other teams, though it’s not clear if Cohen will actually do this."

With the 8th selection of Major League Phase of the Rule 5 Draft, the Mets picked Justin Slaten of the Texas Rangers.  They then traded Justin to the Red Sox for 2023 10th round draft pick, Ryan Ammons.  Ryan has yet to appear in Pro Ball...In the Minor League Phase of the Draft the Mets selected Donovan Antonia an OF/C from the Reds...The Mets also selected Alan Perdomo from the Rockies...the Mets lost 5 players in the Minor League Phase: RHP Brendan Hardy to the Rockies, OF Yeral Martinez to the Marlins, LHP Tyler Thomas to the Braves, RHP Daison Acosta to the Nationals, and RHP Benito Garcia to the Cardinals.

Press Release: Mets sign RHP Michael Tonkin.  After going 1 and 2 with a 5.14 ERA in 5 games, 7 innings for the Mets, he was placed on waivers and claimed by the Yankees on April 25th.  The Minnesota Twins later claimed him from the Yankees on August 27th.

The Mets and Reds swap relievers. Randy Myers goes to Cincinnati and fellow closer John Franco will finish games in New York.

2004

The Mets and Royals exchange right-handers with starter Brian Bannister going to Kansas City and reliever Ambiorix Burgos heading for the Big Apple. The son of former major league southpaw Floyd Bannister will place third in the AL Rookie of the Year voting, earning nine victories for the last-place club, and the 23 year-old Dominican will appear in only 17 games for New York, being derailed by injuries and off-the-field incidents.

2013: It's a big day of transactions for the Yankees. They lose two free agents, 2B Robinson Cano, who agrees to a ten-year deal with Seattle for $240 million, and OF Curtis Granderson, who moves across town to the Mets for four years at $60 million. To compensate, the Bronx Bombers ink OF Carlos Beltran for three years at $45 million, and 2B Kelly Johnson for one year.
