Game Recap: St. Lucie Mets Work Key Walks, Defeat Threshers 5-4

Reed pitches scoreless inning in rehab assignment

PRESS RELEASE: PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (April 16, 2022) – The St. Lucie Mets walked their way to a 5-4 comeback victory over the Clearwater Threshers in front of a crowd of 3,516 on Saturday night at Clover Park.

The Mets entered the sixth inning trailing 2-0 and without a hit, but they worked five walks in the inning and took a 4-2 lead.

William Lugo started the inning with a walk from Jared Wetherbee. Alex Ramirez got the Mets first hit with an infield chopper. Stanley Consuegra then walked to load the bases. Justin Guerrera drew a walk to force home a run and reload the bases. Shervyen Newton took another walk to bring in the tying run.

The next batter, Cesar Berbesi, took a called third strike on a full count pitch. However, Berbesi challenged the umpire's call through the Automated Ball-Strike System ("ABS") and it was overturned to ball four to bring in the go-ahead run.

The Mets added another run in the inning when Guerrera scored from third base on a Malik Binns wild pitch to make it 4-2.

Guerrera ripped a RBI double in the seventh to increase the lead to 5-2.

The Threshers scored a pair of runs in the eighth inning but Nate Jones worked out of further trouble to keep the lead.

Grant Hartwig closed out the ninth for his first save of the season.

Jake Reed (left oblique) joined St. Lucie from New York on a MLB rehab assignment. He tossed a scoreless first inning with two strikeouts.

Dylan Hall worked two scoreless innings to get the win.

Ramirez went 1 for 4 to extend his hitting streak to seven games.

Clearwater starter Andrew Painter struck out seven batters in 4.0 hitless innings. He was Philadelphia's first round draft pick (13th overall) in 2021.

The Mets (6-2) and Threshers (1-7) conclude their six-game series at Clover Park on Easter Sunday. First pitch is 12:10 p.m.
