PRESS RELEASE: TAMPA, Fla. (May 19, 2022) – The St. Lucie Mets clobbered a season-high four home runs on their way to a 7-5 win over the Tampa Tarpons on Thursday at Steinbrenner Field. (Box Score)
Each home run came from a different player. Trailing 3-0 with two outs in the second inning, Justin Guerrera and Raul Beracierta hit back-to-back dingers off Richard Fitts to make it 3-2. It was Beracierta's first homer of the season.
Omar De Los Santos crushed a two-run homer 463 feet against Fitts in the third inning to put the Mets up 4-3.
Junior Tilien blasted a solo shot in the sixth inning to make it 6-3.
The Tarpons got a couple of runs back in bottom of the sixth against Mets starter Carson Seymour to get within 6-5.
However, Mets relievers Daniel Juarez, Nate Jones and Dan Goggin combined for 3.2 hitless and scoreless innings to finish out the game.
Goggin got a double play ball and a strikeout in the ninth to end the game for his first save of the year.
Seymour entered the night having just allowed one run in his first six games spanning 25 innings. The Tarpons jumped on him for three runs in the first inning before making the second out. However, Seymour settled in and gave the Mets 5.1 solid innings. He scattered five hits, allowed five runs (four earned) and struck out a season best eight. He improved his record to 4-0.
