Cardinal complete six-game sweep over Mets
Palm Beach wins series finale 4-1
JUPITER, Fla. (June 26, 2022) – The Palm Beach Cardinals completed a six-game sweep of the St. Lucie Mets with a 4-1 win in the series finale on Sunday at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. (Box Score)
Cardinals (2-1) starter Alex Cornwell pitched seven strong innings, holding the Mets to one run on six hits. He walked just one and struck out eight to get the win.The Mets tied the game 1-1 on a Jack-Thomas Wold RBI single in the fifth inning but the Cardinals rallied right back to take the lead in the bottom of the inning. Adanson Cruz led off with a double against Robert Colina and scored on a single by Sander Mora to put Palm Beach up 2-1.
Darlin Moquete hit a run-scoring single in the sixth to make it 3-1. Jhon Torres poked a RBI single in the bottom of the seventh for a 4-1 lead.
Cardinals reliever Nelfri Contreras struck out the side in the eighth and Roy Garcia only needed eight pitches to retire the side in order in the ninth for his fourth save.
Mets starter Dominic Hamel served as an opener. He pitched two hitless and scoreless innings with five strikeouts.
Colina (0-2) took the loss. He gave up three runs and seven hits over four innings. Colina walked four batters, hit a batter and threw three wild pitches. He struck out six.
Omar De Los Santos went 2 for 4 with a run and two stolen bases. He leads the Florida State League with 43 steals.
Cruz, who entered the game 0 for 22 with 15 strikeouts against the Mets this season, went 3 for 3 with two doubles and a walk.
The Mets have lost seven games in a row and eight of their last nine games since clinching the FSL East Division first half title on June 15th.
The Mets (40-28, 0-3) are off on Monday. They return to Clover Park on Tuesday to start a six-game series against the Jupiter Hammerheads. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 6:10 p.m.
