Binghamton, NY – Led by Ronny Mauricio's 3-4 performance with a career high five RBI, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies shut out the Hartford Yard Goats 6-0 on Friday night at Mirabito Stadium.
Binghamton (25-40, 53-81) opened the scoring in the first as Wyatt Young walked and Carlos Cortes singled. Mauricio came up to the plate and took a 2-0 fastball from Hartford starter Case Williams (0-1) to right for a long three-run shot. It was Mauricio's 26th homerun of the season and the Ponies had a 3-0 lead.
The third inning started just like the first as Young and Cortes reached on a single and double respectively which set the table for Mauricio yet again. He roped a single to left field, plating Young and Binghamton increased the lead to 4-0.
The Ponies tacked on three more in the eighth as Cortes reached base on his second double of the night and Mauricio's triple to right made it 5-0 Ponies. Hayden Senger capped off the three-run frame with a sacrifice fly scoring Mauricio.
Tony Dibrell (2-2) earned the win on the mound for the Ponies going six scoreless innings giving up just one hit with four walks and six strikeouts. Joe Zanghi pitched the final three innings giving up two hits and no runs with a walk and five strikeouts.
Williams, in his Double-A debut, pitched six innings surrendering four hits and a walk with 12 strikeouts.
The Ponies will continue their series against Hartford (32-34, 75-60). Saturday's game is scheduled for 6:35 PM with pregame coverage beginning at 6:20 PM on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.
POSTGAME NOTES: Young, Cortes and Mauricio each scored two runs… Cortes finished 3-4 with two doubles… Mauricio finished a double shy of the cycle and has 89 RBI on the season.
