Anthony DiComo Mets.com: 5 (or 6) Mets prospects on the rise. 3 players who forced their way onto the radar this year - OF Alex Ramirez (Mets' No. 4, No. 85 overall); 1B/3B Mark Vientos (No. 7); RHPs Dominic Hamel (No. 12) and Mike Vasil (No. 11); 2 possible breakout players to watch in 2023  - SS Jett Williams (No. 5); RHP Blade Tidwell (No. 8);

Joel Sherman NY Post (Post Sports Plus - subscription required): Trade ideas for the Mets to shed James McCann’s contract for a risky roster upgrade.  Joel offers trades like "McCann to the Cardinals for Steven Matz"..."McCann to the Mariners for Chris Flexen or Marco Gonzales plus Jesse Winker"..."McCann to the Giants for Anthony DeSclafani".

Mike Puma NY Post (Post Sports Plus - subscription required) Why Carlos Rodon could be the answer to tricky questions about the Mets’ aging rotation. Rodon, who is represented by superagent Scott Boras, is likely to reject the $22.5 million option and aim for a multiyear deal (think: five or six) in the $30 million range annually....Rodon, who turns 30 before spring training, would provide a younger (and left-handed) alternative to potentially replace deGrom or Bassitt....for the Giants this year...14-8 record with a 2.88 ERA over 178 innings.

New York Mets traded Duffy Dyer to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Gene Clines on October 22, 1974.

New York Mets released Dyar Miller on October 22, 1981.

NY Post: Roger Clemens’ ‘bizarre’ Mike Piazza bat throw is still shocking.

National Pastime.com:

1979

Ed Kranepool declares his free-agency, ending his 18-year major league career, played entirely with the Mets. The first baseman and pinch-hitter, who signed with the expansion team in 1962 at the age of 17 as an amateur free agent, set franchise records in eight categories, including the most hits (1,418), most games played (1,853), at-bats (5,436), and pinch-hits (90).

1986

After losing the first two games at home, the Mets pull even with the Red Sox in the World Series. Gary Carter's two Fenway Park home runs power New York to a 6-2 victory in Game 4 of the Fall Classic.

2000

In Game 2, the Yankees extend their World Series winning streak to 14 consecutive games, defeating the Mets, 6-5, in a game which is overshadowed by Roger Clemens throwing the barrel of a shattered bat at Mike Piazza as the Met catcher runs to first. The eagerly awaited at-bat, due to the Rocket's beaning of the Mets' superstar in July, results in the two players confronting one another and the emptying of both benches.
