NY Post: Mets promote Eric Chavez to bench coach amid several changes to staff. "He is likely seen as a future manager who should receive excellent tutelage under veteran manager Buck Showalter...Jeremy Barnes [was promoted] to hitting coach to replace Chavez...Glenn Sherlock, Showalter’s right-hand man who served as bench coach last year, is to move to a role where he coaches the team’s catchers and works to prevent the opposition running game via pitch calling."
Tim Healey Newsday Mets promote Eric Chavez to bench coach. "For Chavez, who is viewed within the industry as something of a managerial prospect and who reportedly interviewed for manager openings with the Angels and Rangers in recent years...Barnes served as the assistant hitting coach in 2022 (and the de facto farm director in 2021). Other teams expressed interest in potentially hiring him, a person familiar with the situation said, so the Mets moved him up as a way to fend off would-be poachers."

In my opinion, it is no longer reasonable to say that Mike Trout is the best player in baseball. That honor now belongs to Freddie Freeman. This article outlines why I have reached that conclusion. . .https://t.co/X3hUqZ0a7O

1995 | Charley Smith, the player traded to the Yankees from the Cardinals for Roger Maris in 1967, dies at the age of 57 in Reno, Nevada. In 1965, the third baseman was dealt to the Redbirds by the Mets, along with southpaw Al Jackson, to obtain Ken Boyer. |
2016 - OF Yoennis Cespedes re-signs with the Mets for four years and $110 million. This averages out to $27.5 million per year, the most ever for a position player. He had opted out of the remaining two years of his contract to have another stab at free agency.
