Tim Healey Newsday: Mets' Drew Smith has made two changes: his delivery and diet. "The mechanical change involves his glove (left) arm. He used to jerk it up high and yank it down, which he said he felt helped him throw hard but 'took a toll on my arm over time.'...He cut down on carbs and cut out artificial sugars, which resulted in a drop of more than 20 pounds in four months..."

- Mets bench coach Eric Chavez confident Brett Baty will improve in field – The former 3rd baseman remembered when he was given the “all hit, no glove” label until he earned his first Gold Glove in 2001. “’I see that same determination in him,’ Chavez said Wednesday…’It’s, ‘I’m going to work extremely hard regardless of what people say, and I’m going to prove everybody wrong.’ ”
- Mets ‘do-everything utilityman’ Danny Mendick returns to infield “When he last took the field, back on June 22, 2022, Mendick crashed into White Sox teammate Adam Haseley while chasing a fly ball...Mendick is known for his grit and his glove, capable at each infield spot and even has been used in the corner outfield.”
