BROOKLYN, N.Y. (April 20, 2023) – The Brooklyn Cyclones defeated the Wilmington Blue Rocks, 7-1, on Thursday evening from Maimonides Park. The victory snapped a four game skid for the Cyclones. RHP Trey McLoughlin recorded the win, logging 2.2 innings out of the Brooklyn bullpen.

Neither team could crack the scoreboard until the fifth inning. Wilmington broke a scoreless tie on an RBI groundout from CF James Wood. Although Brooklyn recorded its first baserunner of the game in the home half of the inning, the Cyclones failed pull even in the fifth.

Instead, Brooklyn used the bottom of the sixth inning to make its mark. After 1B Warren Saunders lined out to start the inning, the next four men would reach base - capped by a 2-RBI single from CF Alex Ramirez to pull the ‘Clones in front.

Chris Newell’s squad was far from done in the frame, though. Following a fly out from DH Kevin Parada, RF Jaylen Palmer was walked to load the bases. From there, Brooklyn plated two more after C Drake Osborn was hit by a pitch and 3B Chase Estep was walked with the bases loaded. Brooklyn tacked on one more, courtesy of a fielder’s choice off the bat of 1B Warren Saunders to push the Brooklyn lead to 5-1.

The Cyclones tacked on some insurance one frame later. With two men on and one out, Ramírez singled home a run, plating LF Joe Suozzi. One batter later, Parada knocked in SS César Berbesi on a sacrifice fly, to make it a 7-1 ball game. Neither squad would score the rest of the way.

The Cyclones return to action tomorrow against the Blue Rocks. RHP Tyler Stuart (0-0, 1.13 ERA) is expected to toe the rubber for the Cyclones. He’ll oppose LHP Dustin Saenz (0-1, 8.53). First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. from Maimonides Park.
