Anthony DiComo Mets.com: 'A really cool day': Nimmo hits key blast in 5-for-5 outburst. "Nimmo homered as part of a 5-for-5 game in the Mets’ 5-3 win over the Dodgers on Wednesday afternoon, his second career five-hit game and his first since Aug. 5, 2018, in Baltimore."

Brian Joura Mets360: "Life is apparently throwing everything it can against the Mets here in April and the club just keeps responding in a terrific manner. Today, the Mets overcame an ejection of Max Scherzer and the departure of Starling Marte to defeat the Dodgers, 5-3, and capture the series win Wednesday afternoon in L.A."

Mets.com: Scherzer ejected after umpire inspection. "Suspension is possible for Mets ace, who gets tossed in fourth inning of New York's win."

Matt Musico Elite Sports NY: 7 things to know about Mets’ Max Scherzer’s foreign substance ejection. "If a pitcher gets ejected for this now, it comes with an automatic 10-game suspension. Scherzer and the Mets will get an opportunity to plead their case during a hearing, though...Even if it’s deemed the substance was just rosin, SNY’s Andy Martino notes Scherzer having it on his glove could be a rule violation anyway"

Kevin Kernan Ball Nine: "A Pitcher should never be tossed for using legal substances like rosin and sweat to get a better grip."

The Mets made a number of roster moves yesterday: Tommy Hunter activated from the Injured List; Denyi Reyes assigned to Syracuse; RHP Nolan Clenney – Transferred from AA Binghamton to AAA Syracuse; RHP David Griffin – Transferred from AA Binghamton to AAA Syracuse

Mets.com: "OF Starling Marte departs due to neck stiffness. Marte departed after six innings due to discomfort on the left side of his neck, which he has been feeling since a slide into home plate on April 9....RHP Carlos Carrasco has a bone spur in right elbow. The Mets announced that Carrasco received an injection in his right elbow to relieve inflammation stemming from a bone spur."

1967

Tom Seaver, a right-hander the Mets obtained in a lottery drawing that included the Braves, Phillies, and Indians, gets his first major-league win when the team beat the Cubs, 6-1. The 22 year-old rookie, who will become known as the 'Franchise,' goes 7.2 innings, giving up eight hits and one run in the Shea Stadium contest.

1997

In the second game of a doubleheader, the Cubs stop their season-opening losing skid at 14 games, beating the Mets, 4-3. By losing the opener, Chicago set a National League record (0-14) for the most consecutive losses to start a season and has the second-worst record behind the Orioles, who lost 21 decisions before winning a game in 1988.

2006

At Petco Park in his first at-bat of the season, Kaz Matsui hits an inside-the-park round-tripper, making it the third successive season in which the Mets second baseman has hit a home run in his initial plate appearance of the year. Ken Griffey Jr. also accomplished the feat starting in 1997 with the Mariners but had walked before going deep.

2006

Appearing as a pinch hitter at Petco Park, Julio Franco becomes the oldest major leaguer to hit a home run. The 47 years, 240 days old's eighth-inning blast, which put the Mets ahead in their 7-2 victory over the Padres, surpasses Jack Quinn, who accomplished the feat as a pitcher for the Philadelphia A's at the age of 46 years, 357 days.
