Mike Puma NY Post: Mets can’t overcome Tylor Megill’s dud in second straight loss to Giants. Tylor Megill followed an ugly David Peterson start a day earlier with his own clunker on Sunday and the Mets stalled offensively in a 5-4 loss to the Giants at Oracle Park...Megill scuffled through four innings in which he allowed four earned runs on six hits with one walk and two strikeouts...The right-hander departed after 81 pitches in what was his shortest and least-effective start of the season.

Brian Joura Mets360: "Jeff Brigham threw two scoreless innings and Brooks Raley turned in his ninth straight game without allowing a run...[Francisco] Alvarez tied the game in the sixth inning with a solo homer, the first time this year a Met catcher delivered an extra-base hit."

Tim Healey Newsday: The game-deciding play came in the bottom of the eighth when Joc Pederson walked and Drew Smith allowed Mike Yastrzemski’s go-ahead double, a line drive into the right-centerfield gap. Brandon Nimmo cut it off and threw the ball in, but the relay throw was not nearly in time.

Tim Healey Newsday.comJustin Verlander has one more test to pass before Mets debut. "After facing hitters on Sunday for the first time since getting hurt close to a month ago, he is scheduled to make a minor-league rehabilitation start with a to-be-announced affiliate on Friday...On a practice field Sunday afternoon, he tossed three innings and 43 pitches during live batting practice."

Commissioner Ford Frick fines Casey Stengel $500 for appearing in uniform for a beer advertisement, which shows the Mets manager ready to bunt. 1965

Casey Stengel wins his 3,000th game as a manager when his Amazin' Mets score three runs in the top of the ninth inning to beat the Giants at Candlestick Park, 7-6. The 'Old Perfessor,' who served as the skipper for the Dodgers, Braves, and Yankees, won more than a third of his games (1,149) during his 12-year tenure with the Bronx Bombers.

2012

For the first time in major league history, four different pitchers combine to walk four consecutive batters when the Marlins hurlers load the bases and then force in a run in a 2-1 loss against the Mets. Josh Johnson walks Lucas Duda, then Randy Choate issues a free pass to Justin Turner, followed by Steve Cishek's base-on-balls to Scott Hairston, and finally, Mike Dunn forces home Josh Thole with the tying run with the last of the only walks given up by the Miami staff in the Citi Field contest.

2015: The Yankees snap the Mets' franchise record-tying 11-game winning streak with a 6 -1 win. Jacob deGrom allows three homers, two by Mark Teixeira and the other by Jacoby Ellsbury to be tagged with the loss. Michael Pineda is the winner.
