PRESS RELEASE: METS TO HOST HOME OPENER APRIL 6 vs. MARLINS

METS TO HOST HOME OPENER APRIL 6 vs. MARLINS

FLUSHING, N.Y., April 5, 2023 – The New York Mets will host their home opener at Citi Field on Thursday, April 6, at 1:10 p.m. vs. the Miami Marlins. Citi Field parking lots will open at 9:40 a.m. and gates open at 10:40 a.m.

The annual Sheal Floral Presentation, a tradition that dates back to the first Opening Day at Shea Stadium in 1964, will begin approximately 30 minutes before first pitch. Bill Shea was instrumental in bringing National League baseball to New York. Members of the Shea family will be on hand to present Mets Manager Buck Showalter with a good luck floral arrangement.

New Jersey vocalist Anna Negron will perform the National Anthem and the New York Fire Department ceremonial unit will present the colors. In the middle of the seventh inning, NYPD police officer Makiah Brown will sing "God Bless America."

The Mets will honor former broadcaster Bob Murphy with an honored mark in the left field rafters recognizing his 42 seasons broadcasting the Mets. A Mets Hall of Famer, Murphy called Mets games from the team's inaugural season in 1962 until his retirement in 2003. Murphy's children Brian, Kasey and Kelly will throw out the ceremonial first pitch to Mets alumni Mookie Wilson, Tim Teufel and Turk Wendell.

Ahead of the game, the Empire State Building will be lit blue and orange beginning at sunset on April 5 and continue through April 6 for the home opener.

The Mets encourage fans to take Mass Transit for the Mets home opener. Mass Transit is the fastest and greenest way to Citi Field.

Fans can purchase tickets to all 2023 Mets home gates at the Citi Field box office or by visiting mets.com/tickets or calling 718-507-TIXX.
