BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (13-16) fell to the Hartford Yard Goats 4-3 in 11 innings on Thursday night at Mirabito Stadium, despite a dominant start on the mound from Mike Vasil.
Vasil
tossed a career-high eight innings with seven strikeouts, and he allowed just
one run on four hits with zero walks. The 23-year-old right-hander retired the
first 11 batters of the game, before issuing his first hit and first run.
Vasil
extended his outing with two six-pitch innings in the seventh and eighth
innings, respectively. He exited after 93 pitches and eight innings of one-run
baseball with a 3-1 lead.
Binghamton
scored just two batters into the game with an RBI groundout from Jose Peroza
that drove in Wyatt Young to make it 1-0. Hartford (15-14) tied the game in the
fourth when Hunter Goodman belted a solo home run. Goodman’s homer was the Yard
Goats’ first base runner of the game.
The
Rumble Ponies added another run in the fifth with a sacrifice fly from Peroza
to make it 2-1. In the sixth inning, Agustin Ruiz clobbered his second homer of
the season to give Binghamton a 3-1 lead.
Hartford
climbed back in the ninth, as Zac Veen scored on a wild pitch and Drew Romo
drove in Goodman on a sacrifice fly to make it 3-3. In extra innings, Veen
drove in Bret Boswell with a sacrifice fly to give the Yard Goats their first
lead of the game at 4-3.
The
Ponies got the tying run to third base in the bottom of the 11th but
did not score.
The
Rumble Ponies will continue their series with the Yard Goats on Friday night.
First pitch is set for 6:35 PM. The game will be broadcast on the WNBF Rumble
Ponies Radio Network.
