BRIDGEWATER, NJ – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (11-14) fell to the Somerset Patriots 11-2 in the series finale Sunday afternoon at TD Bank Ballpark. Somerset took five of the six games in the series. It is Binghamton's fourth straight loss.
The Ponies raced out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on two-out RBI singles from Brandon McIlwain and Agustin Ruiz. Blane Abeyta (2-0) would not surrender a run the rest of his outing allowing four hits and two runs over six innings.
After Somerset (17-9) tied the game at two in the second, they would take the lead on a two-run home run from Tyler Hardman in the fourth.
In the seventh, Brandon Lockridge and Austin Wells each hit two-run homers to extend the Patriots advantage to 8-2. Wells has hit a home run in three straight games and finished with seven RBI for the series. Jasson DomÃnguez added a three-run double in the eighth to complete the scoring.
The Rumble Ponies begin a seven-game homestand with the Hartford Yard Goats, the Colorado Rockies Double-A Affiliate, on Tuesday with first pitch at 6:05 PM and the NYCM Insurance pregame show getting underway at 5:50 PM on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.
