Game Recap and Highlights: Rumble Ponies Fall to Portland in Series Opener on Tuesday

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (28-29) dropped the series opener against the Portland Sea Dogs 9-1 on Tuesday night at Mirabito Stadium.

It was Binghamton’s first home game since May 28, and Portland (36-22) holds the best record in the Eastern League.

The Sea Dogs put up a four-spot in the top of the first inning, highlighted by a two-run homer from Niko Kavadas.

Daniel Juarez was the first pitcher out of the bullpen for Binghamton and tossed a career-high four innings, while allowing two runs on two hits. He struck out five batters in the outing, which tied his season high.

With Portland up 4-0 in the third, Chase Meidroth hit a two-run homer to make it 6-0.

With the Sea Dogs leading 7-0 in the sixth, Jose Peroza led off the inning. Peroza clobbered a fly ball to right field that would have been a home run, but it landed foul. A few pitches later, Peroza smashed a solo home run to left field to make it 7-1.

Portland added a run in each of the next two frames to push its lead to 9-1.

Justin Courtney tossed a perfect frame in the ninth inning and has now had scoreless outings in four of his last five appearances.

The Rumble Ponies will continue their series with the Sea Dogs on Wednesday night. First pitch is set for 6:35 PM and pregame coverage gets underway at 6:20 PM on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.

Postgame Notes: Binghamton totaled 10 hits and left 10 runners on base…Matt Rudick had a multi-hit game and reached base four times…Peroza had a multi-hit game…Agustin Ruiz, Hayden Senger, Joe Suozzi, Jose Mena, and Wyatt Young all reached base with a hit.
