Here are the Brooklyn Cyclone Game Notes for today's game.

The Brooklyn Cyclones (12-4, 40-41) look to return to .500 for the first time since April 11 against the Greensboro Grasshoppers (3-12, 39-40) — the High-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates — on Saturday evening at 6 p.m. from Maimonides Park on Coney Island. 

RHP Jordany Ventura (NR) — the Mets’ No. 22 prospect per Baseball America — is scheduled to make his Cyclones debut for Brooklyn against Greensboro’s RHP J.P. Massey (1-1, 4.05 ERA).

LAST TIME OUT: The Cyclones won their second-straight contest in a 6-3 triumph over Greensboro...Brooklyn erupted for 3 runs in the 4th and 2 in the 5th to jump in front for good...1B Mateo Gil provided the go-ahead 2-run home run in the 4th...CF Alex Ramírez picked up a base knock and drove in a pair...3B William Lugo and 2B Chase Estep each tallied 2 hits, including a double and an RBI...RF Stanley Consuegra picked up 2 hits, including a double, while SS Junior Tilien doubled twice and reached base 3 times...RHP Blade Tidwell earned his 6th win, hoisting 5.2 innings of 2-run ball...DH Will Matthiessen, RF Sammy Siani, and 2B Francisco Acuña each collected multiple hits for Greensboro...Acuña drove in a pair on a solo home run in the 5th and an RBI double in the 9th. 

 

HIT ‘EM UP: The Cyclones tallied 13 hits in their 6-3 win over Greensboro on Friday night...Brooklyn’s offense has racked up double-digit hits in 5 of their last 7 games dating back to July 4’s series opener at Wilmington...That includes a season-high 16-hit performance in July 5’s victory over the Blue Rocks...Over the last 7 games, Brooklyn’s offense is averaging 10.29 hits-per-game, while scoring 5.57 runs per contest...Prior to the 7-game stretch, Brooklyn had not posted a double-digit hit game in 14 contests dating back to June 16 at Aberdeen. 

 

CUTTING ‘EM DOWN: RHP Blade Tidwell is amid his best stretch of baseball in 2023...Tidwell has earned the win in 4 of his last 5 outings with Brooklyn winning all 5 games...He has permitted just 6 runs on 21 hits over 31.2 innings...He has walked only 7 (5.8 BB%) and struck out 43 (35.8 K%) in those contests...Tidwell punched out a career-high and team-season-best-matching 11 in consecutive starts on July 6 at Wilmington and June 30 vs. Jersey Shore...This comes after tied a then-career-best with 10 strikeouts on June 11 vs. Greenville...Tidwell also whiffed 10 on May 4 vs. Aberdeen...Over his last 10 starts dating back to May 17 at Hudson Valley, Tidwell is 6-0 with a 1.73 ERA (10 ER in 52.0 IP) with just 31 hits allowed...The Loretto, Tenn. native has walked 27 and struck out 76 (36.2 K%)...Tidwell’s holding opponents to a meager .169 batting average (31-182) against him...Tidwell leads the South Atlantic League and Minor League Baseball in strikeouts (76) by 5 over Greenville’s RHP Wikelman González (71)...He is also 2nd in batting average against (.170) and 3rd in ERA (1.73) since that date (min. 50.0 IP)...On the season in the SAL, the Loretto, Tenn. native is 2nd in batting average against (.196), 2nd in strikeouts (103), tied for 3rd in wins (6), and 7th in ERA (3.45). 

 

COMEBACK ‘CLONES: Brooklyn earned their 15th come-from-behind victory of the 2023 season with a 6-3 win vs. Greensboro on Friday night...The Cyclones accrued 4 comeback wins during last week’s series at Wilmington...July 7’s win was Brooklyn’s first in 2023 when trailing after 8 innings...It marked the ‘Clones first victory when trailing after 8 frames since August 14, 2022, at Wilmington...Brooklyn erased a 5-4 deficit entering the 9th that night on a 2-run pinch-hit home run by C Matt O’Neill...The Cyclones came from 4 runs down to earn the victory on Tuesday, matching their largest deficit erased on the campaign...The ‘Clones erased a 4-0 margin entering the 5th and a 4-1 deficit going into the 7th...Brooklyn also erased a 4-run ledger on Opening Day — April 7 — vs. Jersey Shore...The Cyclones trailed 4-0 after the 1st inning that day, ultimately topping the BlueClaws, 9-8, in 11 innings. 

 

SUPER STAFF: Since the start of a 4-game winning streak at Hudson Valley on May 17, the Cyclones’ pitching staff has, statistically, been the most dominant in Minor League Baseball...Entering Saturday, Brooklyn has posted a MiLB-low 2.69 ERA (130 ER in 435.0 IP) over their last 50 games, holding a 29-21 record in that span...The Yankees’ High-A Hudson Valley (2.87) is 2nd in the minors...The Cyclones have hurled 5 shutouts in that span and hold a strikeout rate of 28.6% and a walk rate of 11.2%...Additionally, Brooklyn pitching has permitted the fewest home runs (14) and holds the lowest opposing OPS (.589), in addition to the 3rd lowest hits-per-9 innings (6.64) in that time period...RHPs Tyler Stuart (1.62) and Blade Tidwell (1.73) hold the 2nd and 3rd best ERA’s in MiLB during that time (min. 45.0 IP). 

 

RED HOT RELIEF: The Cyclones’ relief staff has been exquisite at quelling fires in 2023...Entering Saturday, Brooklyn has the best bullpen ERA (3.10) in the entire South Atlantic League, and 2nd lowest throughout Minor League Baseball...The Rangers’ Single-A Down East leads (2.94) MiLB, while Hudson Valley (3.44) is 2nd in the circuit...RHP Paul Gervase (1.26) is 1st and 4th in ERA among SAL and MiLB relievers, respectively (min. 35.0 IP). 

 

WE’RE GOING STREAKING:  Brooklyn’s season-high 5-game winning streak came to a close on July 8 at Wilmington...Alas, the team has won 7-of-8 and 13-of-17 going into Saturday’s contest...The Cyclones are 12-4 in the second half and lead the North Division of the SAL by 1.5 games over Aberdeen (10-5)...Brooklyn is 1.5 games behind Hickory (13-2) for the best record in the circuit during the half...The 5-game streak was the longest for the ‘Clones since they won 6-straight from September 3-9, 2022, vs. Wilmington and at Winston-Salem. 

 

LUGO LAND: INF William Lugo has been scalding hot with the bat over the last few weeks...Since June 22 vs. Hudson Valley, the 21-year-old is slashing .327/.414/.633 with a 1.047 OPS and a 176 wRC+...In 14 games, Lugo is hitting .327 (16-49) with 8 runs scored, 4 doubles, a triple, 3 home runs, 12 RBI, and 7 walks to only 8 strikeouts...In that time, the right-handed swinger has raised his batting average by 34 points (.181 to .215)...Among SAL players with 55 or more plate appearances, Lugo is 3rd in the circuit in OPS (1.047), 4th in slugging percentage (.633), and tied for 8th in RBI (12) in that time frame. 

 

CAPTAIN KEVIN: Kevin Parada tied a career-high with 3 hits on July 5 at Wilmington and has picked up the pace offensively over the last few weeks...Dating back to June 6 vs. Greenville, the 21-year-old is slashing .311/.383/.544 with a .926 OPS and 150 wRC+ in 27 games...Parada has accrued 15 runs scored, 3 doubles, 3 triples, 5 home runs, 17 RBI, 10 walks, and 2 hit-by-pitches...The former Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket enters Saturday tied for 5th in the South Atlantic League in doubles (17) and hits (74), 7th in extra-base hits (29), and tied for 7th in total bases (123)...Since June 6, Parada is tied for 1st in triples (3), tied for 4th in total bases (56), tied for 6th in hits (32), 7th in slugging percentage (.544), and 8th in batting average (.311) and OPS (.927). 

 

JUNIOR MINT: INF Junior Tilien clubbed a go-ahead 3-run home run with 2 out in the 9th on July 7 at Wilmington as part of a multi-hit night...The 20-year-old has picked up a knock in 9 of his last 10 games entering Saturday...Tilien is 13-for-his-last-38 (.342) with 7 runs scored, 3 doubles, 3 home runs, 8 RBI, and 3 walks...During the streak, Tilien is slashing .342/.390/.658 with a 1.048 OPS and 178 wRC+. 

 

OMAR KEEPS SWIPING: OF Omar De Los Santos stole a pair of bags on July 9 at Wilmington and has 32 stolen bases in 2023...The 32 swipes match INF Walter Rasquin’s franchise record for single-season stolen bases which was set back in 2017 when Brooklyn played in the short-season New York-Penn League...He is also tied for 2nd in the SAL in stolen bases for 2023...De Los Santos remains among the best base stealers in Minor League Baseball since the beginning of 2022...The Dominican native has accumulated 102 stolen bases in that span, which is 5th most in MiLB...Only Aberdeen OF Luis Valdez (106), Mariners farmhand OF Jonatan Clasé (104), D’Backs prospect OF Wilderd Patiño (104), and Marlins farmhand INF Nasim Núñez (103) have tallied more...De Los Santos has also snagged 61 more bases than any other Mets prospect in that time...Fellow 2023 Cyclone IF/OF Jaylen Palmer is 2nd with 41.
