BOX SCORE

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (August 11, 2023) - On the backs of strong pitching from RHP Joander Suarez and RHP Brendan Hardy, the Brooklyn Cyclones shut out the Aberdeen Ironbirds, 5-0, on Friday night at Maimonides Park.

Suarez struck out a career-high 11 batters over six shutout frames, while surrendering only three base hits. From there, Hardy took it the rest of the way, tossing three hitless innings of relief while striking out two and walking only one.

Brooklyn opened the scoring early, when LF Ryan Clifford demolished his second home run since joining the Cyclones. The long ball was Clifford’s 20th total on the season between time spent with Brooklyn, High-A Asheville, and Low-A Fayetteville.

One frame later, C Drake Osborn followed suit with a solo shot - his second home run of the series, and ninth overall on the campaign.

Brooklyn put up its biggest offensive frame of the night in the fifth. With two on and two out, RF Alex Ramírez laced a bases clearing triple into the gap to plate two. With those RBI’s Ramírez now has 48 on the year, the most by any Brooklyn player.

One batter later, Clifford continued his productive day at the plate, knocking in Ramírez on an RBI single to increase the lead to 5-0, which would hold as the final score. With the win, Brooklyn has earned at least a series split of the six-game set with Aberdeen.

The ‘Clones and Ironbirds return to action Saturday evening at Maimonides Park. RHP Cameron Foster (4-6, 4.20) toes the rubber for Brooklyn, where he’ll oppose RHP Juan Núñez (0-2, 4.73). First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. on Coney Island.
