BRIDGEWATER, N.J.  – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (17-16, 52-50) rallied from an early deficit to score eight unanswered runs and defeat the Somerset Patriots 9-7 in the series opener at TD Bank Ballpark Tuesday night. Binghamton has now won 10 of their last 13 games.

Somerset (18-15, 60-41) got off to an early 4-0 lead against Ponies starter Dom Hamel (6-5) as they scored a run in the first inning and three runs in the second inning.

Binghamton’s offense came alive in the third. Hayden Senger drew a leadoff walk against Chase Hampton (1-2). Two batters later, Luisangel Acuña doubled and Rowdey Jordan walked to load the bases with one out. The next batter Drew Gilbert laced a two-run single to center to cut the Somerset lead to 4-2. JT Schwartz then belted a two-run triple to right-center field that tied the game at four. Jeremiah Jackson followed with an RBI single to center that put the Ponies on top 5-4 to cap off the five-run frame.

Hayden Senger added on with a two-run homer to center in the seventh, his fourth home run of the season to extend the lead to 7-4.

In the eighth, Acuña was hit by a pitch to begin the inning. He then stole both second and third base. Gilbert then grounded into a fielder’s choice in which Acuña beat the throw home from first. Acuña finished 1-3 with two runs scored, one walk, and tied a career-high with three stolen bases. Gilbert finished with three RBIs.

Jaylen Palmer added a solo home run to lead off the ninth to put the Ponies ahead 9-5. It was Palmer’s third homer since being called up to Double-A.

Hamel settled in after the second inning to earn his sixth win of the year. He allowed four runs over six innings, issuing only one walk and striking out five.

The Rumble Ponies continue the Double-A Subway Series against the Patriots on Wednesday morning with first pitch at 11:05 a.m. and the NYCM Insurance Pregame Show getting underway at 10:50 a.m. on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.

Postgame Notes: Senger scored two runs and reached base twice…Rowdey Jordan reached base three times with a single and two walks…It’s the Ponies most runs (9) in a game since June 6 at Reading (W 10-8)…Binghamton is now a game back of Somerset for first place in the Eastern League.
