Game 2: Box Score
HARTFORD, Conn. – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (34-25, 69-59) split the doubleheader with the Hartford Yard Goats (26-34, 55-72), as Joander Suarez threw a seven-inning no-hitter in the first game of the twin bill.
Game One: Rumble Ponies 2, Yard Goats 0
Suarez (2-0) twirled the eighth no-hitter in franchise history and the fourth individual no-hitter in franchise history. Suarez tossed Binghamton's first individual no-hitter since Miguel Pinango in 2006.
The only baserunner Suarez allowed was a walk to the leadoff batter in the first. He then retired 20 batters in a row, facing the minimum of 21 batters over seven no-hit innings with four strikeouts. Suarez has thrown 13 consecutive no-hit innings with just two walks allowed and 10 strikeouts over the first two Double-A starts of his career.
It was Binghamton's first no-hitter since June 22, 2021, when Josh Walker and Andrew Mitchell combined to no-hit Reading.
Binghamton grabbed a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning with an RBI single from Hayden Senger and RBI infield hit from Luisangel Acuña.
Game Two: Yard Goats 9, Rumble Ponies 5
Binghamton raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning with a two-run homer from Drew Gilbert and solo homer from Kevin Parada back-to-back.
Hartford crept back in with two runs in the second and the game remained 3-2 until the seventh. Sterlin Thompson's two-run homer and Drew Romo's solo shot in the seventh highlighted a three-run frame to go up 5-3.
The Ponies were the home team, as it was the makeup game from July 3rd's postponement, and Matt O'Neill led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk. Rhylan Thomas grounded out, moving O'Neill to third and Acuña drove him in with a sacrifice fly to cut Hartford's lead to 5-4. With the Ponies down to their final out, Gilbert clobbered a game-tying solo homer to make it 5-5. Gilbert recorded his third multi-homer game of the season and first as a member of the Mets' organization.
Hartford scored four runs in the top of the eighth, highlighted by a two-run homer from Romo. Romo is the first opponent to hit three home runs in a game against Binghamton since 2013.
The Rumble Ponies will continue their series with the Yard Goats on Friday night at Dunkin' Park. First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. and pregame coverage will begin at 6:55 p.m. on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.
Postgame Notes: Dating back to his final start for High-A Brooklyn, Suarez has thrown 17-straight no-hit frames over his last three starts.
