NY Post: Mets fire two top lieutenants in front-office shakeup. "Kevin Howard, the organization’s director of player development, and Jeff Lebow, the director of pro player evaluation, are no longer with the Mets, a source confirmed."

Syracuse.com: Strike zone to get bigger for Syracuse Mets, Triple-A. "MLB estimated the change will restore about a half-inch to the top of the strike zone from this year’s reduction...The pitch clock will be set at 17 seconds at all times, instead of 14 seconds with the bases empty and 19 seconds with runners on base. In the clock’s first use in the major leagues this year, it has been set at 15 seconds with no runners and 20 seconds with runners."

Larry Brooks NY Post: Mets, Steve Cohen can’t afford to make this Pete Alonso contract folly.  Talking about Pete's contract status Larry concludes: "It is imperative Cohen and the Mets do their utmost to ensure that Alonso remains a people pleaser in Queens for the foreseeable future. That means beyond 2024"

Baty's return was expected since his demotion to Triple-A early this month. Butto is likely to work out of the bullpen.

1963: Tim Harkness cracks a 2-run game-ending homer in the 16th to give the Mets a 6 - 4 win over the Braves. It is Harkness's 2nd homer of the game.

1975: Mets ace Tom Seaver shuts out the Pirates, 3 - 0, and reaches 200 strikeouts for a major league-record 8th straight season.

1985 - The visiting New York Mets edge San Francisco‚ 4 - 3, with Keith Hernandez's 2-run homer climaxing a 3-run 9th inning. Doug Sisk‚ in relief of Ed Lynch‚ is the winning pitcher. In the 5th‚ Lynch lines to right field and is thrown out 9-3 by RF Joel Youngblood. It's the National League's second 9-3 putout in 2 months.

2004: The Marlins edge the Mets‚ 5 - 4. Armando Benitez gets the save in relief. It is his 10th save of the year against New York for a new Major League record for saves against a club in a year.
