Jon Heyman NY Post: Mets’ deal for Pete Alonso may have to wait for free agency. "Any hope to sign Alonso for a deal comparable to Freddie Freeman’s $162M contract is gone now, maybe more so because Alonso posted his third 40-plus homer season in five (only Kyle Schwarber even has two) than him hiring noted agent Scott Boras."

NY Daily News: Mets arbitration candidates: Predicting who is safe, who is on the bubble and who is out. Abbey Mastracco says that 1B Pete Alonso, DH Daniel Vogelbach, RHP Drew Smith, LHP Joey Lucchesi, LHP David Peterson are safe; that RHP Trevor Gott, RHP Jeff Brigham, RHP John Curtiss, RHP Sam Coonrod, OF DJ Stewart, INF Luis Guillorme, are on the bubble and INF Danny Mendick, OF Rafael Ortega, C Michael Perez, OF Tim Locastro, RHP Elieser Hernandez will be Non-Tendered.

As I noted back on October 4th: Some of these will be released and won't even make it to the non-tender stage as the Mets Roster currently stands at 45 with 5 Pitchers still listed on the 60 Day IL - Edwin DiazJohn CurtissElieser HernandezBryce Montes de Oca, and Josh Walker. They must be added to the 40 man no later than 5 days after the final game of the World Series.

Danny Abriano SNY.TV: Stay or Go: Should Mets bring Drew Smith back for 2024? "Regardless of what they decide with Smith, the Mets are going to have to add multiple high-leverage relievers to bolster a unit led by Diaz, Raley, and perhaps Ottavino. If Smith is part of the revamped bullpen in 2024, he'll start out in a much lower-leverage role than the one he was thrust into in 2023 -- but he has the upside to earn more trust."

Arizona Fall League:

Sam Dykstra of MLB.com gave a rundown of the Mets in the AFL yesterday.  Regarding Catcher Kevin Parada he states: "The 2022 11th overall pick is ending his first full season with extended time in Arizona, which should provide him with additional opportunities to work defensively behind the plate. Parada still exhibits the potential for plus power, and that makes him a notable performer at a premium position. But his glovework and arm still need improving for him to reach his lofty ceiling, and working with a large and diverse Glendale pitching staff should help in that regard."
