Report: Mets sign A's Relief Pitcher Chad Smith to a minor league contract

 

According to SNY.TV, the New York Mets have signed former A's Relief Pitcher, Chad Smith to a minor league deal with an invite to Spring Training.  Originally drafted by the Marlins in the 2015 draft, Chad spent 2023 with the A's where he split time in Las Vegas and Oakland.  

Update: The Mets released Chad Smith on March 23, 2004.

In 10 MLB games in Oakland last year, the right hander went 1-2 with a 6.59 ERA, 13.2 innings, 15 hits, 10 Runs, 10, ER, 2 HRs, 7 walks, 9 Ks;

Looking at his past gamedays, Chad throws a sinker typically around 95 MPH but sometimes close to 97 MPH.  His slider is thrown around 85 MPH.  

According to FanGraphs, he has 1 Minor League Option left.

Chad will turn 29 next June.
