1/16/2024: Mets Roster Moves - sign Yolmer Sánchez and catcher Austin Allen to minor league contracts

 

The New York Mets have announced via X/Twitter that they have signed infielder Yolmer Sánchez and catcher Austin Allen to minor league contracts and invited both to major league Spring Training. 

Both players give the Mets depth with MLB experience at AAA.

Mets claimed Yolmer Sánchez, 31, off waivers in 2022 where he was assigned to AAA Syracuse.  In 22 games with the S-Mets in 2022, he hit .244/.355/.333 - .688 OPS.  In his career he has played 2B, SS and 3B with most of his time at 2B and 3B.  The switch-hitter won a gold glove with the White Sox in 2019.  He will provide MLB ready infield depth at AAA.

Austin Allen, 30, had a big power year in AAA for the Miami Marlins - 26 HRs, 67 RBIs, .225/.311/.491 - .802 OPS.  He has seen parts of 4 years in MLB with the Padres and A's.
