NY Post: Edwin Diaz flashes stuff that made him Mets’ $102 million man: ‘Looking really good’. "The Mets closer bulldozed through Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso and Harrison Bader in a live batting practice session that affirmed Diaz’s often unhittable stuff is still intact...In all, Diaz threw 20 pitches and allowed two balls in play — both from Lindor, who lofted what would have been a fly out and what approximated to a groundout to second base — while striking out Alonso and Bader in a dominant showing."

Carlos Mendoza just ran infield defense drills on main field, like Showalter did last year (both learned it from Yankees player development). Showalter did it with an air of authority that Mendoza, a brand new manager, just basically matched. Just a little spring observation.

NY Post: Pete Alonso could follow Brandon Nimmo’s free agency path back to Mets. "Nimmo still took the free agency tour, which David Wright had bypassed. Both stayed with the Mets. Alonso is taking the longer road. He could very well land elsewhere next year, but it’s too early to suggest it’s a foregone conclusion."
NY Post: Steve Cohen is ‘not tone deaf’ when it comes to Pete Alonso contract situation. “/We want to keep him. He’s an important part of our team today and hopefully in the future,' Cohen said on the upcoming “Meet at the Apple” podcast. 'We know the fans feel strongly about him, and I’m not tone deaf. I totally understand the fans’ love of Pete. I hope he hits 55 home runs and makes it so difficult on me in free agency. I would call that a great outcome.'”

MLB.com:
- One thing to watch for each team in today's spring slate - "Tylor Megill has suddenly become quite important. Kodai Senga’s shoulder injury means that Megill is one of three or four candidates competing for a job in the Opening Day rotation. He’ll kick off the competition with a start in the Mets’ Grapefruit League opener, looking to build upon the success he had down the stretch last season."
- X-factors for 10 teams that missed playoffs in 2023 - For the Mets it is Brett Baty - "Baty, a former top prospect who has slashed .210/.272/.325 over 431 plate appearances in the Majors, will be an important figure for the team in 2024. After prospect Ronny Mauricio suffered a torn ACL in his right knee while playing in the Dominican Winter League, it’s Baty or bust at the hot corner."
