NY Post: Edwin Diaz flashes stuff that made him Mets’ $102 million man: ‘Looking really good’. "The Mets closer bulldozed through Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso and Harrison Bader in a live batting practice session that affirmed Diaz’s often unhittable stuff is still intact...In all, Diaz threw 20 pitches and allowed two balls in play — both from Lindor, who lofted what would have been a fly out and what approximated to a groundout to second base — while striking out Alonso and Bader in a dominant showing."

NY Post: Pete Alonso could follow Brandon Nimmo’s free agency path back to Mets. "Nimmo still took the free agency tour, which David Wright had bypassed. Both stayed with the Mets.   Alonso is taking the longer road. He could very well land elsewhere next year, but it’s too early to suggest it’s a foregone conclusion."

NY Post: Steve Cohen is ‘not tone deaf’ when it comes to Pete Alonso contract situation. “/We want to keep him. He’s an important part of our team today and hopefully in the future,' Cohen said on the upcoming “Meet at the Apple” podcast. 'We know the fans feel strongly about him, and I’m not tone deaf. I totally understand the fans’ love of Pete. I hope he hits 55 home runs and makes it so difficult on me in free agency. I would call that a great outcome.'”

The Braves sign the University of Southern California hurler Tom Seaver, but Commissioner William Eckert nullifies the contract due to rules that govern the signing of college players. The right-hander, who is declared ineligible by USC, will become available to any team, except Atlanta, willing to match the original contract in a lottery, which the Mets will win that also included bids by the Indians and the Phillies.
