The Brooklyn Cyclones (3-5) will look to secure a series victory in the finale of the six-game set against the Asheville Tourists (4-4) — the High-A affiliate of the Houston Astros — on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. from Maimonides Park on Coney Island.

 

RHP Calvin Ziegler (0-0, 0.00 ERA) — the New York Mets’ No. 22 prospect according to MLB Pipeline — is scheduled to take the ball for Brooklyn in the final contest of the set. Asheville is projected to counter with RHP José Guédez (1-0, 0.00 ERA).

LAST TIME OUT: Brooklyn swept Saturday's doubleheader against Asheville...The Cyclones captured the opener, 6-2, and won the finale, 3-1...LF Stanley Consuegra reached base three times in Game 1, adding a three-run home run in the first...C José Hernández collected two hits and drove in two on a single in the third...LHP Felipe De La Cruz tossed 4.1 innings of three-hit shutout ball in a no-decision...C Drake Osborn provided all the offense for the Cyclones in Game 2 with a three-run blast in the fourth...CF Jackson Loftin's solo shot in the seventh was Asheville's only run in the nightcap...RHP Jordan Geber tied a career-high with seven strikeouts in 4.0 spotless frames, taking a no-decision for Brooklyn.

 

HOW SWEEP IT IS: The Cyclones swept Saturday's doubleheader from Asheville, winning Game 1, 6-2, and taking Game 2, 3-1...The twinbill sweep marked the first for Brooklyn since June 18, 2022, at Wilmington...The Cyclones won the opener that day in eight innings, 1-0, and then, playing as the home team, won the finale, 4-1...The sweep was the first at home for Brooklyn since May 22, 2022...The Cyclones beat Hudson Valley, 5-4, in Game 1 and, 3-1, in Game 2...Brooklyn was 0-4-2 in doubleheaders last season, including a 2-10 overall record.

 

ROSTER MOVES: Brooklyn made a series of roster moves before Sunday's series finale...INF Wilfredo Lara was reinstated from the Cyclones' 7-day injured list (hamate) and RHP Sean Reid-Foley was added on a Major League rehab assignment...In a corresponding move, RHP Alan Perdomo was transferred to Single-A St. Lucie...Lara is New York's No. 23 prospect per MLB Pipeline and ranked fourth in the Florida State League in slugging percentage (.452) and fifth in home runs (14) in 2023...Reid-Foley joins after being placed on the Mets' 15-day IL on March 28 with right shoulder impingement...The 28-year-old struck out 16 hitters in 7.2 Major League innings in 2023...He also made three minor league rehab appearances for Brooklyn last season, allowing one run in 2.2 innings...Perdomo earned the win in Game 2 on Saturday after tossing 1.2 frames of shutout relief.

 

FELIP-IN' AMAZIN': LHP Felipe De La Cruz has tossed 8.1 shutout innings to start the 2024 season for the Cyclones...The 8.1 frames are the most by a New York Mets farmhand this year without allowing a run...The 22-year-old has permitted just four hits and two walks while striking out six...Since making his South Atlantic League debut last August, De La Cruz is 2-1 with a 1.78 ERA (5 ER in 25.1 IP) with seven walks and 23 punch-outs...Since his Brooklyn debut, the southpaw leads in the circuit in WHIP (0.87) and is second in ERA (1.78), batting average against (.170), and innings pitched (25.1).
