Game Recap: Ponies Fall to Reading in Back-and-Forth Series Finale

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (6-8) dropped the series finale against the Reading Fightin Phils, 5-4, in a back-and-forth affair on Sunday afternoon at Mirabito Stadium. The two teams split the six-game series.

Reading (6-9) got the scoring started in the second inning on an RBI single from Jim Haley that made it 1-0.

Binghamton then grabbed its first lead in the third inning on an RBI double from Jett Williams, RBI single from Rhylan Thomas, and RBI walk from José Peroza.

With the Rumble Ponies ahead 3-1 in the fourth, Robert Moore hit a game-tying two-run single for Reading that made it 3-3.

Binghamton grabbed the lead back in the fifth inning on an RBI single from Kevin Parada that scored Williams to make it 4-3.

In the seventh, Moore came through again with a game-tying hit on an RBI single. He later scored from second base on a passed ball that gave Reading a 5-4 lead.

Mets right-handed pitcher Max Kranick made his second rehab start of the series for Binghamton and threw 52 pitches over 3.1 innings, while allowing one earned run.

Blade Tidwell (1-2) made the second relief appearance of his career and struck out three batters over four innings, while allowing one earned run. Tidwell twirled three 1-2-3 innings over the four frames that he pitched. Paul Gervase struck out three batters over one inning out of the bullpen and stranded two baserunners.

The Rumble Ponies will begin a six-game road series with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays) at Delta Dental Stadium on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 6:35 PM and the game will be broadcast live on Newsradio 1290 WNBF & 92.1 FM.

Postgame Notes: Thomas recorded his team-leading fifth multi-hit game of the year and third multi-hit game of the series…Peroza extended his hitting streak to five games.
